Makes you wonder why Man City paid the record transfer fee for a British goalkeeper to get Trafford and Cooper has never played above the Championship.

Bit weird, innit?
I don’t think that you can use the amount of money Man City spend as a reason but Trafford is better than Cooper. Not sure about Pope anymore

It's daft that anybody is even having this conversation to be honest.
It is Cooper is nowhere near the England team. Henderson was different class when he was here and he is 3rd choice.
Cooper is a very good keeper though and now back on form wins us points and there isn’t another one I would have in the Championship

Not sure that’s true Petey, the £27m City paid for Trafford (before buy-backs etc) is short of the £30m Everton paid for Jordan Pickford. However, the move to Leeds in the summer did set a new record.

As for where Cooper ranks, I’d say below Trafford, Henderson, Pickford who are the only international standard goalkeepers. There’s then Pope as a reliable PL standard and then Cooper would be in with Rushworth, Beadle, Walton in a group sitting between the bottom 5 in the PL and the top 10 in the Championship.

Coopers performances this season have been outstanding so far. where do we all line him up against England's best stoppers!
I'm interested to know how far he would be off a call up if he continues his form i certainly rate him more than trafford
Well he’s a miles better keeper than Pickford who’s England’s current number 1, so not sure where that puts him!

I can’t believe Pickford - a keeper who’s never won anything, never played in the Champions League, has had more relegation battles than top half finishes, can’t pass the ball and is highly erratic has been Englands number 1 for so long.

Hendo should have been the starting keeper at the World Cup. After that then possibly Pope and then Trafford. So Cooper is probably the 4th best English keeper around at the moment.

Genuinely one of the most insane posts I've ever read in 17 years of being on this forum.

Have a like for the sheer audacity of it.

same i think hendo is better

You can have a like for how batshit crazy that post is.

I actually agree that Hendo should have started at the WC as I think he's better than Pickford but to try and claim Cooper is "miles better" than Pickford is astounding.

I'd caveat the above statement re the WC by saying Pickford has done very little wrong when he's been playing for England so can see why he keeps the jersey, even if I don't agree.

It's given me the confidence to finally float my idea that Tom Cannon is miles better than Harry Kane.

Pickford was one of those players who I never thought was as good as people made out, then I watched him twice against us in the last PL season and he was outstanding in both games and arguably prevented us from winning at Bramall Lane.

I also struggle to think of any glaring errors that Pickford has made.

You don’t have the career he has, and accumulate as many England caps if you are shit

Cooper is a great shot stopper and commands his box. However there are a few things he needs to improve on his distribution to be premier league level.

1. Be quicker when throwing it out - he often starts a throw then stops and looks elsewhere allowing the opposition plenty of time to get back.
2. His kicking often goes out especially when under pressure.
3. His kicking is not very accurate and often down the middle to the opposition keeper. Great keepers can aim for the channels.

Great goalkeeper. Fantastic this season.

Nowhere near England levels

He's a good keeper, in an average club side.

At international level, he's half decent, but certainly not world class. His positioning can be suspect and he seems to panic a bit in the biggest games.

That is of course, only my opinion.

Pickford is one of the most overrated keepers around, an average premier league keeper that has somehow managed to be Englands number 1 for a decade, baffling.

It was somewhat tongue in cheek saying that Cooper is better than him now…but…I know who I’d rather have in goal for us
