The title sends a shiver down your spine, the reality sets in, we can't even beat Scotland!!!!!

Well done to the u20s though, hope your watching Gareth, some lads that wanna play to win, not just get paid!!!!!!!!

The look on the faces of the England players yesterday in the wall as Leigh Griffiths bent in the second said everything. Barely any emotion whatsoever. I'd have killed someone

We are now one of only 2 clubs that can claim to have won the World Cup. In fact our achievement ouweighs Wet Spam, they only one one!

I saw the second half.

Great we have won something if only to paper the cracks over the national game in this country.

However, from what I saw our ball retention was awful, and we lacked any real skill compared to Venezuela. A victory for organisation and professionalism perhaps. The standard seemed very poor to me, and some of those lads will struggle to have much of a career in the game in my opinion.

You probably wouldn't be saying that if you watched the semi final v Italy. Dominated possession and the game after going 1-0 down in the 2nd minute. Today's performance wasn't as good, but Venezuela were good too.

There are a number of players in that team who'll be PL regulars before too long IMO.

fantastic achievement & England u20s deserve all the praise. great to see Calvert Lewin doing so well, no one predicted when he left blades. he'd end up scoring the winner 10 mths later in a world final

after winning u20's world cup & retained toulon tournament if this doesnt get PL clubs to trust young english talent instead of avg imports next season. then we might as well shut national side down. as it would be pointless

Only a matter of time before people begin the "Golden Generation" bollocks and start talking of European and World Glory.

It will not happen.

When will we ever learn?...
Sadly its already started Pinchy........ Fortunately being Scottish i never need to worry about that kind of bollocks !!!!! Although yesterday was the biggest high and low i have suffered in the space of 5 minutes in my life.

A bit sad that LM.

I was in a pub in Embleton, Northumberland and there were 3 young Scots lads going mental when they went ahead. The England fans in the pub told them to calm down as 'it is only England'. I know we are the hated old rivals, but we aren't really any good and haven't been for about 45 years. I could understand it if they'd gone 2-1 ahead against Brazil in the WC final, but England? Beating us really wouldn't be anything to get excited about.

BTW, I only saw snatches of the match when I went to the bar. We were sat outside soaking up the evening sun which was far more enjoyable than watching England.

Confident prediction - England will easily qualify for Russia 2018. We will have an easy group and after three poor performances we will qualify for the round of 16 where will be beaten by one of the lesser South American or African teams. It really isn't that hard to predict....

Don't take it to heart 'COCO' said with tongue firmly in cheek.

I am in a difficult situation to be honest. I am firmly proud to be Scottish although i have lived in Sheffield for over 30 years. Double as long as i lived in Glasgow.
For Scotland to beat England at anything is a big deal for Scots all over the world, right or wrong we have always been seen to be the down trodden of England. Its just one of those things that was instilled in us from birth. It is not actually true but its what we chose to believe.

It is nothing for the English to get too worried about, it is just how it is.

Don't say we are sad, just let us get on and enjoy it once in a while.

Read an article in The Times yesterday saying exactly that. These kids need their clubs to give them game time and let them develop, not rotting on loan at Colchester while Chelsea sign another Ivorian 29 year old short term fix. Or Man U pay Christ knows for Paul Pogba. Until that happens these players will stall.

Both sets of supporters applauded one another after the game. Now that was a result.

your more confident than me I can see us finishing 3rd in our world cup group after some embarrassing defeat to a Caribbean or Asian minnow

I agree that we need to keep our feet on the ground, and not get carried away but I'd say a little bit of cautious optimism wouldn't be unjustified.

Winning the U20 world cup doesn't guarantee success for the future senior team, but it does mean that we were the best team at the tournament.

Unfortunately most of these players will be mismanaged (over-rewarded too early financially or not given enough game time most likely) but a few of them can remain some of the best players of their generation worldwide. This would be great for the senior team.

Do agree with you but the investment by the FA in youth development deserves to succeed. Do think the money thing and the big spenders will hamper progress but hard to see how to halt it. You can see the temptation to be drawn to the money

The FA investment is great, but again, it's no guarantee. China have pumped millions into youth development in the last decade and haven't seen any real results, Brazil on the other hand have been producing the world's best players for years playing in bare feet with little/no investment.

I will take the investment and the comparison with others should include Germany where the introduction of home grown talent is part of their system. The real success will require the big clubs to embrace the talent being produced and the Championship should be a place to develope young players but it w
