Not some Keynesian post about in the long term us all being dead!
But I do think we need to be prepared to support some unpopular, unpalatable decisions for the longer term good of the club by compromising on some of our ideals.
By this I'd accept selling off both Che Adams and Dominic Calvert-Lewin if it meant exchanging their potential for players currently in their prime.
On an individual basis I'd prefer Adams over say Leon Clarke but which one does history tell you will bag 16-20 goals if aboard?
If selling DCL meant Wilder getting McFadzean or having to lower his sights, once more I think I'd rather go with the now.
My logic is two fold really:
1. We aren't going to go up based on players who may be consistently good in 2 years' time.
2. As a league one club, we are vulnerable to players being attracted to playing at a higher level. At least in the league above you just have to worry about Premier League poachers. We've got 44 clubs who can offer a better playing experience than we can now.
If Wilder needs to sacrifice a few young lambs to go into battle with a few more seasoned Rams (and I don't mean Derby rejects!), then I'm fine with that.
This season has to be about getting out of a division that we shouldn't be in then sacrifices may need to be made.
We can entertain more long term strategising in the Championship. For now, the goal has to be singular - get a team together who know what is expected and can deliver regularly. We can't accommodate many learning curves and inconsistencies any more. We've already been left behind far too much.
