Elis James’s Feast of Football podcast – Blades episode

EJFOF listeners this season may be aware that they’ve tried to branch out a bit this seasons beyond just a focus on Welsh football, and this week it’s a glowing focus on us.

Those unfamiliar with it, Elis (big Swansea fan) is joined each episode with Danny Gabbidon (ex-Cardiff) and Iwan Roberts (ex-tooth owner).

Should maybe add they were saying back in the autumn “how is McBurnie behind McGoldrick there?” so weren’t exactly fully up with us back then, but enjoyable to hear they are a bit more aware this time round – a testament to more people taking notice all round really.

"Is Chris Wilder old school like Graham Taylor" or summat like that . Don't see many parallels myself.

Also think AK should be lauded. Barely gets mentioned in any media coverage of us when he is so integral to our journey thus far. Bit like Laurel without Hardy if you get my drift.

Great stuff though and like Gabbidons contributions.

Interestingly, would Chris stick to unearthing gems if he were managing the likes of Liverpool,or buy ready made internationals do we think?.

Let's hope we never find outThough I'd love to see what he could do with England ,or mebbe even Scotland/Ireland etc.

I was familiar with him first from the Guardian, and mainly got into his podcast for its Welsh football coverage.

Great stuff though and like Gabbidons contributions.

There was an episode a few weeks back, I think focused on transfer windows and signings, where Gabbidon spoke about his time at QPR. He said that the takeover there happened so late in the window that there was just a wild panic among the new owners to spend, and that Warnock just ended up getting literally anyone that was available regardless of whether they would fit in properly – Traore, Wright-Phillips, Anton Ferdinand were all signed for a lot of cash and none of them were really suited to NW’s type of team. In another episode he spoke of the difficulty of playing for Wales in that period – going from a team where you were fined for losing the ball near your own penalty area (and encouraged to just smash it away) to Speed’s where you were encouraged to use the ball from defence.

Interesting the comments about McB and how tough he found it at first. No doubt this links to his improvement as he has got up to speed. Assume we will see a similar change for Mr Berge as he spends more time with us.

I recall Sander saying his debut were the hardest 60 mins of football he has ever played, we probably won't see the best of him until next season.

It all highlights how blessed we are to have people that genuinely care about our club collectively and each individual that makes up that whole.

And also that you can have some talented individuals and still achieve the square root of frog all.
