Effects of attendance on players

Motivation/ attitude is the biggest problem within our ranks with regards to the players. Players like Baxter, Coutts etc possess more than enough talent to lift us out of this division but lack the desire and application to put it into practice. Yes, we have a number who aren't up to the task talent wise but even then we have all seen in the past at the lane that a work ethic can get you somewhere. You will also get the confidence type player and I reckon the beard is one of these. There are so few worth keeping at the moment it's depressing. Not one player who's contract is up has shown us a "I'm determined to win a new one" attitude

I think it's purely down to the personality of the players we bring in.

These guys lack balls, lack resilience and lack that desire to be successful in front of large crowds.

That's why most of them have never played above lower league football and never will.

Attendances and motivation - If I have got the gist of this right the argument is if you are off form and lacking confidence you are better off playing to smaller crowds.

I suppose (quite apart from the psychological difference between say 5000 people telling you that you are not fit to wear the shirt and 20,0000 - which I'd say is marginal if the vast majority are criticising in both scenarios) you also have to factor in the confidence effect of knowing that your performances have reduced attendances at the club by that amount ( which will do nothing for your confidence) and combine this with the extra negative attention that will be paid to your performances by the club paymasters as it will be hitting them in their pocket (which will also destabilise confidence further). Its a bit like saying getting relegated is a good thing - its not.

If you can't play in front of a crowd but play like Messi on the training ground it probably means that psychologically you can't hack it and you are in the wrong job or you need professional help. You should want to play in front of 20,000 if you want to be a successful footballer, otherwise you choke in the big games.

To me adrenalin and motivation should be there if you play for the Dog and Duck , Matlock Town , Hallam , SUFC or Real Madrid . Ok difference is how much you get paid , but IMO our players have no excuses on performances or indeed crowd attendances.

Our players just seem not to want to hack it , because they know they are at the end of the road at the lane . They can play football but to me , they just don't want to , so they are going through the motions whilst the clock ticks down to the summer.
