Eastleigh - first goal

Love the analysis SwissBlade but not sure I agree with the conclusion, I would always want our forwards to either attack the centre of the goal or drop to receive a pull back - we've not done that well for the past couple of seasons (Hanson is perhaps surprisingly one of our best positional players in the box).

If this were 1991 and we had Deane and Agana in a 4-4-2 then I’d agree, but the way that Wilder plays is much more dynamic, because it has to be.

Playing with the wing backs is relatively new for United, its been tried over the years in different forms, but mostly we adopted a back 4 and it was the role of the defensive fullbacks to get forward when it was ‘safe’ to do so. One of the reasons we got success last season was because of the wing back option – either scoring or creating goals.

Billy will get plenty of chances and his movement, to me is exceptional. He is a selfless striker in many ways. I’ve no issue with his work rate. I’d love to know how many chances he got last season, but even if he got a goal every 3rd chance, then that’s a phenomenal potential for goals.

He looks fitter and stronger than he’s ever looked before.

If we can get 5 goals from each wing backs and 20 goals from Billy we’ll be in a strong position to stay up at the very least.
