He 100% will not move to London

More so... his Mrs wont

Seen this a few times - genuine question, why not? Have I missed something? Does he have a very public anti-London stance on Twitter or summat 😀

Does he have any resale value once his current contract expires, or are we going to be happy for him to leave on a free?

I would assume its the latter which means there is no benefit to the club to offering him a new contract.

If he didnt like the increase in wages for reaching the prem in his current contract then he shouldnt of signed it... simple as learning basic grammar.
You appear to have missed off the end of your sentence, so I've helped out a bit. ;)

It’s not a case of feeling sorry for him, he’s given 100% so deserves a bit of respect.

......and it’s comments like your bottom one which are out of order, he’s trying to get the best deal for him and his family towards the latter end of his career, just like any other fucker would in any walk of life. I think he’s deserved one but I’m willing to go with Wilders decision as he will hopefully outlast everybody else at the club.

But he got a bonus/pay rise when we got promoted just after agreeing a new contract, what more does he want? He's asked for an improved contract and we've said fuck off and honestly, who can blame the club?

I don't think he should necessarily be given an improved contract, money wise, because he already agreed to a new contract recently which took promotion into account, however I don't blame him for trying to get one, or a possible extension of a year, and if he's been too stubborn with it and fallen out with Wilder that's a real shame, but it is not deserving of some of the nasty comments on here. Which is the point.
He is entitled to look after himself over club, in the same way that he would be dropped in an instance if it was better for the club.

Spoke to someone today and they said the club have given Duffy until noon on Thursday to find a new club, if not the club will mutually agree to terminate his contract so he can still sign with someone after the window closes. If he finds a club before then it will still be a free transfer.

Seems the bridge is burned, no way back

What an idiotic thing to say. How can the club "mutually" agree to terminate his contract. If Duffy hasn't got a contract lined up then he will collect his £20k per week or whatever for turning up at Shirecliffe 5 days a week. If United don't want him at the club then the best they can do is put Duffy on gardening leave but they'll still be paying him his £20k pw for sitting at home for the duration of his contract.

Brilliant bit of fucking management.

I think everyone is disappointed. Disappointed we might not see him play for us again and disappointed that he’s rocked the boat. I understand CW told all players that he wouldn’t be offering new contracts during the close season. The implication being the players will have to earn new contracts. Duffy decided he’d ask anyway. Presumably he thinks he’s special, more deserving than our Captain.
I think that’s what has pissed people off.

It’s a shame. He’d have been better just keeping his head down and fighting for a place. If he didn’t succeed, look for a move in the JTW.

I don't really give a shit about all the sentimental bollox.

The only thing I'm concerned about is that Mark Duffy has been one of our best players, and probably our most instrumental and creative player. Our best football is played with him on the pitch.

No one we've signed has been able to get close to replicating the effect he has. We've tried to replace him and it's never worked out.

We've tried again, and we can't say with certainty that any of the players we've signed will be able to link the play, and make us flow like Duffy can.

Getting rid of him takes away option to revert back to what we know works IF it just isn't happening.

That's what worries me. But I understand he won't be happy to be a 'just in case.'

He’s already on good money. Why does he deserve one out of all the squad?
Don’t see Basham, Sharp, Fleck, JOC throwing their toys out of pram. Anyone who would give a 34 year old a contract extension is out of their mind

None of us of a clue what goes on behind the scenes but we are all entitled to of an opinion. Of you heard anything? I ofn't.

I get the age issue but just because he’s never played at that level doesn’t cut it for me, most of our squad hasn’t played at that level, I think Duffy is more than capable of playing in the Prem for a season or two.

The main thing that concerns me is the fact we struggle when he doesn’t play, something that’s been mentioned a couple of times on here, I suppose only time will tell but I think Duffy should still be playing games for us next season, just until we settle into the league.
They haven't got pay rises and extensions, why should he?

The bit of your post I've highlighted is significant. Over the past 3 years the only times Wilder has erred (and there haven't been many for obvious reasons before anyone starts) have revolved around the non-selection or premature substitution of Duffy. The latter quite often lead to the regular feature of letting in goals, loss of point or loss of the game. At the very least we went from cruise mode to panic mode and hanging on for grim death at the end. I hope Wilder's replacements do the job this time and he doesn't end up cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Fair enough mate, I just think Duffy has earned his respect through his superb performances on the pitch and I just don’t like the disrespect shown by many on these boards to a player who has given us nothing but 100%. People should save their harsh words for cunts that deserve it, Duffy doesn’t.

I think fellow blades are annoyed at the disrespect Duffy has shown to the manager and the club. He has known our manager long enough to know how he conducts his business and he usually deals with current player contracts after the summer transfer window.

A few weeks before the start of the season Duffy goes behind his own agents back despite just having his wages doubled to demand better terms.

I don't want Duffy to go but I can understand Wilder and that as a club we won't be taken for a mug. If he gave Duffy what he wanted then the rest of the squad would be queued up outside the door of his office with their agents.

The improved contract that Duffy wanted might’ve just been another year on to his existing one, nobody knows.

I refer you to my post above, nobody knows.

We don’t know if it was more money or another year or two he wanted, nobody knows, what tends to happen though if it is about money is the best players at each club get paid more money than any other player and Duffy has proved season after season he deserves everything he gets and shouldn’t be resulted to the bollocks to him comments on here.

It's another year and a bit more money

From what I can gather that is pure conjecture.

No one really knows how that conversation went. Only Duff and the gaffer.

The tone of it will determine where fault lies.

Don’t ASSUME Duff is the guilty party here. He is getting on, looking to secure what will most likely be his last pro contract. Has 1 year left with us and as such is free to sign a pre-contract in 5 short months should it become apparent an extension with us would not be offered.

Is he perfectly within his rights to politely ask the gaffer where he stands in this regard ?

Equally, if he’s gone in all guns a blazing demanding contract discussion .........

2 sides to every story. We are only partially privy to one of them as things stand !!

UTB

If this is a fact, well you can't blame the lad for trying it on, but, what happens when no one comes in with a better offer ?

Squad numbers / names have just come out and no sign of Duffy

Not looking too clever for him is it? That being said there are still 3 squad places left, so assuming 1 is another keeper, 1 is CDM/CB cover then maybe he might sneak into the 25 if things calm down and he doesn't get any offers.

I think we're holding firm here, which I get but we could live to regret it, give how essential he is to how we play.

Until the new lads bed in, we're essentially sacrificing our whole style of play.
