I could understand this at the start of restart it was quite warm but fuck me, on a cool july evening WTF?

The drinks break has basically become like a 1st quarter time out - a time to reassess/communicate tactics etc.

It's typical of modern age management control systems I'm afraid. Common sense has gone out of the window and been replaced by strict processes. Everything has to be mechanical these days to absolve the powers that be from any blame.

It's simple really .............. boiling hot night, play stops for an injury or whatever, ref shouts..... quite 30 secs break lads, get a drink inside you.

I think the first one really helped us, as Spurs were getting on top beforehand.

Completely agree with this, the team on top get thier momentum broken at the drinks breaks, if you're having a spell trying to come back into the game, it has the same effect, last night they gave us a massive respite when spurs were running at the defence.. Funny isn't it, that when you're winning things seem to go for you..

I believe the reason for the drinks break is nothing to do with temperature.

Before Covid-19, team and players shared bottles: Players would indiscriminately toss drinks bottles to the side or leave them in the technical area and wait for a natural break in play to take a drink, often sharing with eachother.

For obvious reasons, to do so is not safe, so I believe the drinks break ensure the players are hydrated without the potential risk of infecting eachother.

Maybe, but they aren't going to change the rule on a game by game basis. It's just a cover-all rule.
I thought they were going to be a farce, but 1 minute at a convenient stop in play has been ok.

Dehydration after 3mnths of drinking ale all afternoon everyday, I know exactly how they feel let me tell you!

I think the second one helped more. It came right after the goal, totally killed any momentum and left them dwelling on it for a couple of minutes. They never really came back into it after that (apart from the goal 😆)
