Gets a lot of stick and sure there"ll be plenty who say we've won a couple since he's been dropped but today I thought he was excellent

In our tiny lightweight midfield he is the only one who will really fight and scrap when needed

But more than that his passing was good today .

Just one thing mr Doyle .. Ffs will you shoot more as on today's evidence you would get 8-10 goals a season .

Agree / disagree ??

Agree and he was unlucky with that shot.

However I thought Scougill changed the game for us today

For our first Basham overran the ball in a dangerous area (he does this a lot) and lost possession, Doyle won it back and played it out to Coutts - who drove in a great low ball.

Well played by both of them.

Doyle knitted things together well when he came on.

Two shots, one hit the inside of the post (I jumped thinking the ball was in) a few mins later his shot was tipped over by the keeper

I did more than jump, I celebrated for a good 10 seconds, thinking that he was sprinting to the corner flag to celebrate himself, only to then see him trying to get to the ball again.

Would have been awkward, if you couldn't hide among fellow fans doing the same thing!

I thought Doyle was absolutely dog turd first half along with many others, second half Clough brought Scoogs and Coutts on who changed the game, especially Scoogs. With these two coming on it allowed Doyle to do the simple things better, why he couldn't do these simple things in the first half could be down to a number of things but ultimately he did the simple things better in the second half. Some people will remember the 2 quality strikes and automatically think he played well but i honestly thought it was a game of two halves from him, one been dog turd and the other been more than acceptable, admittedly most of the team were dog turd first half but this is a thread on Doyle.

I thought Coutts was as good as Scoogs and the best he's played since joining us. Either way though those two were better than Doyle and if we are looking for a second half improvement Freeman was as good as Doyle because they were pushed back far more so more time was available to players who were lurking deeper.

I thought we saw the best and worst of Coutts today:

On the plus side it was his low driven ball that set up the first.

Then there was one passage of play out on the right where he was distant third favourite to get to the ball, got to it, then somehow emerged with it further upfield, the other side of two of their players.

But...the reason we were camped in our own half for the last 3 or 4 minutes was bc he did another one of those short, very simple, passes that loses possession when he and Flynn(?) were working a short corner. It was a great position and we might even have got a winner, instead we end up defending.

He really needs to cut that out bc it happens 3 or 4 times a game. (Apart from Barnsley.)

Coutts best game was at Barnsley

Doyle yesterday was magnificent unless your default mode is to disect his performance, find any and every tiny negative, in order to total them up and say he was crap

Coutts seems better at centre mid at the side of Basham - he is ok wide right, but he just doesn't seem a natural fit.
Needs must yesterday and we again used a get out of jail card.
Positives from yesterday - we showed great resilience and are now 8 unbeaten.

We move on.

My mate txt me saying "we won't concede today now Doyle is starting"
Surely the changes at half time were the differece?
If Coutts and scougall still came on, and Jose replaced Doyle, wouldn't the fight back have still happened?
*I didn't go to the game

After this what you mention they got a free kick out wide deep in our half (i think anyway), Basham went well out of his way to give Coutts a right bollocking and he held his hands up and apologised but it could have cost us in the end. I thought we looked decent and caused a bit of havoc from set pieces and i think that's why Basham was even more annoyed as he knew that we'd had some joy from them in the second half.

If you thought Doyle was magnificent yesterday i do wonder if people only watch one half. My definition of a player playing magnificent is a player who does his job well through almost all of the game if not all of it, Doyle only did this second half so for me that's far from magnificent. He did play very well second half though has a few have already said and i have liked those posts to show that i believe he did so.

Yep, he played well, particularly so in the second half [not on his own there was he?].

As I've said before on numerous occasions, for me he's been a very good player [and Captain] for the Blades. Leading by example, on and off the pitch - I just wish he was ten years younger.

Coutts is obviously NC's intended replacement for Doyle, however, as we are finding out, he will be a hard act to follow.
