He could've been out on his arse after his stupid sending off v Fulham, but Clough stood by him when most didn't. The reaction on here alone was quite savage, with some justification.

Yet he's come back from suspension like a different player and a true captain.

Not being mean, but I cannot possibly see how he can have been deemed to have performed better than 8 or 9 of our other first team squad ??!!??

Have you been to many games since Doyle has returned to the side ? I would say that possibly only Murphy and Coady have played consistently as well as him (Harry has been suspended so I have discounted him)

I predict this appreciation thread wont be very long as hes a player people love to hate. The best reaction he can hope for from the majority of fans is indifference if he plays well. Not slagging anyone off either because I feel the same.

I'm one of Doyle's biggest critics, but his excellent play over the last 2 months has been a significant reason for our upturn in form. He sits in front of the back 4 and provides solidity for the other 2 central midfielders to get forward. He's much better suited there than in a central midfield 2, where he has more responsibility for going forward, so Clough can take some of the credit for his improved form as well.

Personally I think Murphy deserves it above anyone, he's a class apart at the moment.

I am just pleased that one of our players has been nominated.

I suspect a lot of the clean sheets record has gone into the nomination and since Doyle does a lot of the work to enable the likes of Coady and Murphy to strut their stuff I think the noms are there as a respect for how bloody difficult we are for oppo teams to break us down. That fact alone is one of the reasons why nobody can right us off in the cup too lightly - we are so bloody hard to score against (unless you are a Swindon striker then we just let you have it on a plate)
