dont fellow blades think its a little funny how a club like donny can manage to stump up 1.2m for sharp but the blades cant afford 500 grand for nosworthy makes you wonder where has all the money gone.

Considering that we've had wage bills of £20 Million dropping to £14 Million last season I think we can all see where the money has gone.

Think it's probably wages with the Nosser but the fee is being used as a smoke screen, I really don't think Donny can compete with us in the transfer market ........even when we are supposed to be skint!

Yeah its mad. One Injury and its a gamble which back fires big style.

Perhaps they'd have been better spreading the cash on 3 or 4 players :)

oh yeah its all gone on wages does not matter about all the players sold and the money from west ham plus average crowds of 25;000 fans a game.

Plenty of sound financial advice on here. Maybe you should offer to help out Vince Cable.

I'm sure if we really really had to we could sign Nosworthy for 500K but I infer that we either don't think he's worth that much or are playing hard to get and hoping Sunderland will drop their asking price.

Donny on the other hand are desperate to land Sharp due to his prolific form last season.

If our Chairman offered to cover Nyrons wages himself he would already be here.

Birch has already highlighted that we should be looking at a £6 Million wage bill given our current turnover.

Now given that we have had a wage bill over over double that last year there's £6 million right there. The West Ham money hasn't been received in its entirely yet, although it has been included on the accounts. You talk of 25,000 crowds like that should mean we are rolling in it, that really doesn't generate the money you think it does. Some of it has gone in loans for the hotel that is true, but don't kid yourselves that the majority hasn't been put into the playing staff which hasn't yielded Premiership returns.

I suspect Donny's budget will have all gone on Billy, the fact the chairman is paying his wages says it all. We have had to 're-profile' and bring in half a squad.

The lower leagues have plenty of clubs, like Donny, who thought a little bit of speculating and gambling to bring in 'quality' players thought to be out of their reach was the right thing to do. Bradford, Charlton, Southampton, Huddersfield, Swine FC (not mentioning Leeds, Norwich, Forest, Barnsley who have recovered a little) have all done the same thing as Donny in the past.

Billy was the difference between struggle and security for Donny. Must be a helluva tempting gamble to make.

Nyron meanwhile is nothing more than a decent defender with bombscare tendencies... If we're going to spend £1/2m there are plenty of other options.

Rumour has it that Nosworthy is currently on 23 grand a week, and if this is the case then obviously some serious negotiation needs to be done to slap his head back into the real world and accept what would be on offer at the Blades. I personally think that we will end up purchasing Nosworthy for an undisclosed fee, but, as we have seen in the past these things take time and patience.

I know where that 23K rumour comes from and it is bang on the money and that will be the reason we don't sign him, that and the 500K Sunderland now want.

It will be either a free transfer or a loan until the end of the season and he isn't one of the 2 players lined up last week.

This is true. If Donny sign Billy they will be putting all their eggs in one basket as he will be by far the highest earner in their squad. I would imagine he would take up close to a quarter of their wage bill if they get him.

They will probably be of the mindset that if they can push the boat out on him for a couple of years, his goals might sneek them into the playoffs and through the backdoor into the PL. If in all likelihood it doesn't, but he keeps scoring - they can sell him for a profit and recoup some of the money.

After thinking about it since yesterday, it makes good business sense for both parties under that scenario.

Cheers Bob, are the 2 players still on our radar or have they been snapped up by others? I am assuming you cannot, or will not reveal their names for fear of affecting any potential dealings.

As far as I know these are still deals on the table however Dickinson, Nyron, and DeMerit while training with us this week aren't involved in the 2 deals.
We also have the Belgian fella who is also still with us.

Some people really should think before thay post.

After all the pain inflicted by the contracts of Hendrie (Stewart) , Naysmith, Ugo etc that have now come to an end people are now suggesting we should start all over again with Nyron who I would be amazed would come for less than £15k for 3 years (good on him if he did consider playing before wages). Thats £2,340.000 ignoring the transfer fee of £500K which is trivial in comparision.

In fact why not go the whole 9 yards Gallas and Silvestre are both on frees at Arsenal as is Aurelio at Liverpool thats CB, LB and LB cover sorted. The downside of course is our wage bill goes back up to £20M p.a and we become the new Portsmouth

And so have Blackpool.

And who was that team the year before? Began with B, they won the play-offs.

and the side that lost this years playoffs who are again had a transfer ban put on them.

Basically its a great risk if you go up, if you don't you are pretty fucked.

Aye, though I seem to recall that club also did something we've not done for 75 years as well.
But at least we're prudently run with our £50m debt.

...and who are incredibly fortunate to still be in business.

But there's a thread in General Sport for that so I'll refrain from a rant.
