Doing a Bournemouth or Huddersfield

Looking at some of the possible teams in the championship.Norwich,villa,Sunderland,Boro,Derby and so on it does slightly terrifie me after years of playing tiny clubs.

I predict that we will be promoted to the premiership via the play offs in the upcoming 17/18 season.

I think we can do better than that tbh.

I know it's a while since we competed there but we were always promotion contenders every season in the Championship bar one. And that's without a manager as good as Wilder - so I really think the top 6 isn't beyond us.

We certainly "can" do better but I think we need to temper our expectations and my comment was based on what I would find acceptable. I'll be more than happy with the general building of a real quality side, but that's not saying that I'd complain if we were pushing the top 6 .

If only it would be a level playing field. In 2006-07, the corruption against the Blades began on the first day of the season and contined right to the last day - and beyond.

The season Bournemouth got promoted from the third tier (2012-13), we got the double over them. But lunatic decisions to sell the better players and replace them with inferior ones saw them march on and us slide backwards. As recently as 2014-15, Chesterfield fought us all season long, finishing 6th and just behind us in 5th by two points. They sold their better players such as Eoin Doyle and we can see the results. Just last season, Coventry finished 3 places above us but - like Orient and Charlton - have made pathetic decisions and look at them now.

It really is a simple game. If only the chairmen/owners didn't keep repeating the same mistakes.

Whatever happens, it's going to be far tougher in the Championship than this year. We need to give Wilder plenty of time to get things right and not get on the team's back.

Well we've certainly known we've been as good as promoted for a while so Wilder's had plenty of time including the board to get some sort of structure together. I just hope our lengthy time in this division hasn't squandered our chances of achieving something great.

Callum Wilson, and Andrew Surman amounts seemingly are undisclosed, but would imagine at least 1 to 2 million each? so they spent well over 10 million on promotion.

Also attracting these players must not be cheap, however as you can see they basically signed the best from the league below, and the best they could from the championship. Distin was there journeyman, maybe our Jags would be the same role?

Preston and Huddersfield have shown in 2 very different ways its possible to compete with shrewd buys and tactics
Newcastle were dreadful at Hillsborough, Brighton look far more together as a team

Spending money on its own gets you where Blackburn are, has any team spent more than them since they fell out of the prem
shows if you do it properly , work on team ethics you can compete, in any league

Apart from Distin (and maybe Federici) they are still at the club and playing first team football.

They have spent a fair amount of money since they have been in the prem but a lot of them aren't getting game time. Its a strange old game.
