Does Berge want away

He’ll be fine and he’s an important player for us under current form. It’s an odd thread appearing when we’re bang at it in the playoffs and we’re slagging off one of our key players.

Not completely surprising unfortunately.

How else do you answer that especially when a home journalist is probably cheerleading you to join a more well known team?

"I never see myself leaving here, now I've finally made it to the Blades. I'll probably die here. I've already made enquiries about having my ashes scattered on the right touchline!" 😁

That's EXACTLY what I want. I want him here, in retirement, paraded out at any opportunity a la TC.

I want him suppin' in the Railway, Sean Bean Tattoo, on the Kop, singing about shitting on the bastards below.

Nobody is seriously referencing it.

YouTube clips show a players good moments, which at least gives a very basic insight into what a player does well and what type of player he is, but it doesn't give any details of what he doesn't do too well because they're obviously not highlighted.

We haven't seen enough of what he does well because he hasn't been used that way often enough.

He isn't a defender, a wing back or even a defensive midfielder in my opinion, we haven't seen him excel in that role once.

A midfielder with a licence to get forward and we've seen snippets of it

So I maintain that he is a good player, but not the player we needed if a defensive midfielder was what we were after
He’s been played in forward positions, and shown promise, somethings excelling, sometimes looking a bit lost.

He’s had every opportunity, and I’m really not sure why you need to continually excuse him by bizarrely blaming the club and fans in the numerous ways you list very time. He’s just not worked out as of yet, but has got better. It’d down to him, and it’s that simple.

The most important thing is that the most positive signs are now - and we really need him now.

I’m pretty sure he said that he’d only ever been used as a sitting midfielder prior to coming here and the concept of driving forward and getting in the box is something he’s still learning. I’d need to re listen to the interview though.

I think his point was that he’d played that role in a less frenetic league where he had plenty of time on the ball and English football doesn’t lend itself to a sitting midfielder who wants time on the ball.
That’s exactly right. His problem has been with the pace of English football, not specific issues due to the way we’ve played him, treated him, expected from him.

When you think about it, we've just spent 2 seasons playing in the most lucrative league in the world. If we don't have the money now to build a team around the likes of Berge then we never will. In reality there's only 20 or so clubs in England that can afford him.

It's not so hard to get Euro footy. Get back to Belgian/Norwegian/Scottish Leagues (if Lundstram can play for Rangers, so can I) and its available for him. Maybe even get through 1 or 2 qualifying rounds with one of those clubs, beating Talinn or Tiraspol on the way. But for a club actually with a chance of progressing in the competition? You're having a laugh aren't you? The guy wouldn't even get in the Norwich/Watford teams, never mind Man City.....

Berge performed well for us in the Premier League, and most weeks put in a 7/8 out of 10 performance. Other than a bad injury which now looks to be behind him, what makes you think he's a worse player now than then? He can and should be playing in the Premier League with or without us.

Ooh. That feels a bit selective.

I loved a bit of "He's Norwegian" to the tune of Oasis, but in the season he arrived he performed "ok" and I'd struggle to say more than that. He had one memorable game against Spurs where he scored but we were continuously waiting for him to announce himself.

In the second season he was probably just as average whilst everyone else dropped off a cliff. He had a particularly good half against Fulham when we snatched a point at home and then until his injury he was in contention for being the best of a bad bunch without reaching any notable personal heights. He also didn't do bad away at Liverpool when he should have had a penalty.

That was my memory of his seasons in the PL.

This season he has been stop start and now finds himself making an impact, scoring 3 in 4 (should have been 4 in 4) though not being necessarily excellent in the last 3, though very decent in the few prior matches to that.

Anyone else share my recollection?

He's never really set the place alight as you say, he was decent for a few games in the PL then average to poor in the rest. Got injured, has been average in a lot of games this season and good in a handful. The goals are a massive benefit though with our profligate midfield.

He will probably get drafted for the Norwegian army soon anyway.....😲
