Does anyone actually think we will stay up?

Fulham look good going forward and they've got some very good attacking players. West Brom look like a team who will rip the Championship a good one next season.

Both teams have defenders who think they're playing for Barcelona and yet they have the touch and passing or Barrow. If I were Scott Parker I would be getting in a big nasty defensive coach who will scare the living daylights out of them. They'll struggle because their defence is so 'training pitch'.
There’s something a little bit Norwich about Fulham they’ve even built their defence from the fullbacks in the same way and it shows as the centre halves are poor. If we can’t beat this West Brom side then my opinion in this thread will change.

After Chelsea we have got:

West Ham
WBA
Leicester
Southampton
Man U

the last 3 beat us easily a few months ago. All of these sides - even WBA - are better going forward than we are.

It’s not going to get that much easier.

Can you stop making an honest assessment of our chances based on the football you have watched and just say we will win all our games and qualify for the champions league please you surrendering French coward

West Brom are really awful. At this rate they'll be struggling for double figures. There's nothing to them. Absolutely paper thin. They've played Brighton, Fulham and Burney and taken 2 points. If we lose to them, we're f*cked.

Agreed I’d like us to at least be coming off a decent performance going into that game though

Need to play Chelsea like the 3 good halves from last season. If we play like we did against city, we'll get hammered. Still, we tend to do well against them.

Some proper defeatist thoughts in here. We have been narrowly beat in every game, we are not getting hammered. We have got key players to come back and new signings to bed in. I hope the manager and players have more fight in them then some posters on here

Yes, I have said on other threads that from November I think we will start to pick up points. But we need at least 13 by Jan 2nd to be in with a chance as I think 36 will be enough to stay up.
Plus 9 of our last 12 games are against teams we are MORE LIKELY to be able to take points off. A settled side will help & I expect a strong finish, but I can see it being close!

But at the moment without fans my enthusiasm has waned a bit.

Yes, It’s difficult to see beyond the cloud right in front of us. But we win our next game and the whole place gets a lift

I'm sure that I have said this before but if we finish below West brom, Fulham and Burnley then we fully deserve to be relegated. You can probably add Brighton to the list too as they seem to snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory every week.

I've seen nothing to convince me we'll stay up. I hope we do and me and many others are proved wrong but before the season kicked off I had a feeling and to date, that's not changed. After the success of last season I just think we'll be relegated with little more than a whimper.

.....and we'll probably struggle to beat them! 🤨

I'm just waiting for chrissy boy to get his mojo back and say fuck this if we're going down we're going down our way, let's not die wondering let's have a right go and see what happens.
All this passivism is just not us come on we're not going to beat Chelsea realistically so let's get at em best we can.

If and it's a very big if, we do beat Chelsea, although I doubt we will, I can only see it being a false dawn, especially as we are always shite after international breaks!

I think we'll stay up if Fulham, West Brom and Burnley manage to be shitter than us...I think our results will improve over the coming weeks, but we'll be in the relegation scrap for the remainder of the season.

Tough season - we'll stay up - 100% convinced....................for now ;)

This certain is a thread for "the glass half empty mob"

UTB

No unfortunately, I think things will turn around in the second half only to us snatch defeat away from the jaws of victory . It’s the Blades way.

We're lucky that there's 3/4 teams equally as bad as us so far this season

But we know how good we can be I cant see WBA/Fulham/Burnley/Brighton/ stringing a good run together

If we get it together we will be fine IMO if we can get Fleck back and up to speed

It wasnt long ago we beat Wolves/Chelsea/Spurs in the space of a week

I can see us going down just as easily as I can see us having a run of form and pulling clear. I'd be lying if I said I weren't worried though.

Fact is results are all over the place. Villa annihilated Liverpool in what should be the result of the century only to get smashed by Leeds and Southampton (alright, late push made it seem better but the game was over and Villa were lucky to have eleven on the pitch). Man City conceded five in a game. Football just isn't right at the moment. Right now we're clearly handling things far worse than others but in the same period we lost to Southampton and others we also steam-rolled Chelsea and Spurs and nicked it against Wolves.

When I take a step back from the table we've only really had two results that bothered me, Leeds and Fulham. Leeds have had a storming start and shouldn't be underestimated and Fulham was kind of inexcusable. Otherwise Wolves was over because of a mad start and are a very good team, Villa was over early because of the red and so don't tell me much. Man City and Liverpool are decent enough performances given if they play close to their full ability they're out of most team's class.

As I see it nothing so far will define our season. It's a bad run the likes of which happen to Prem sides all the time. What we have on the horizon are games against Wham, WBA, Southampton, Brighton, Everton, Palace, Burnley, Newcastle (and maybe nicking a point or two from Chelsea, Leicester, Man U in the middle). The results of those games are going to stack up strongly for or against survival.

The real concern for me has been the loss of JOC and the mounting psychological pressure, but in terms of being actually adrift we're 3 points from safety with 31 to play.

Yeah. We were shite yesterday but we’ll play better than that. I’ve seen loads of sides that have looked as shit at this time of the season and said ‘they’re fucked’ and they’ve ended up staying up. I think we’ll just survive. I’m not going to try to provide any rationale for it, it’s pointless; football is unpredictable and illogical at the best of times, it’s just fucking insane this season, one week a team looks like world beaters, next game the same team looks like Wednesday.
The 'We*ne*da* tipped the balance for the like, God they are bad. :D

I still think we will be OK, I still believe there are 4 or 5 sides worse than us, however if we don't get anything at chelski which I don't think we will

We need to start picking up a few wins in the 5 or 6 games after

Good post, generating good interest and obviously making more people realise despite time (to end of season) involved we are in the shit.
As always good to hear the differing opinions, even if we don't agree with all of them, or indeed any.
I do believe, despite it being impossible ,on here, that your excellent question should be asked of/to the players as they are the only ones who can get SUFC out of the, as I said, shit.

I'm holding out hope for a big wondrous relegation escape, with loads of twists and turns, going down to the final day, with all of us allowed back at games to get behind them for the last few.

That'd just be incredible. Unlikely though.

Still, we can dream!

I had us down to be relegated in 18th on the pre-season predictions thread, largely on the basis that it is likely that the entire season will be played behind closed doors, and I’ve seen nothing at all to give me greater optimism.

It’s noticeable that in recent weeks, the farce of playing in empty stadiums, and the effect It has on games, has dropped off the agenda as a discussion point. The media/television seems to have settled into an acceptance that this is somehow normal and are excitedly building up each successive round of matches; just stick some fake crowd noise on the telly and away we go.

Moreover, the majority of other teams appear to have come to terms with the new conditions. In fact some are even revelling in being protected from critical supporters; it’s given their players the confidence to play above themselves.

17/18 matches later, though, we seem utterly incapable of coming to terms with it; it’s killing us.

Looking around at the division, I see other teams that have players who - freed from the pressure of crowds in stadiums - are showing that they are capable of shooting and scoring spectacular, and sometimes outrageous, goals. We either can’t or won’t do that.

Other than us, perhaps only Burnley are yet to show that they are capable of producing the moments of quality that would be expected, and which are needed, to win games in the top flight. With Wood, Barnes and Rodriguez to choose from up front, a battle-hardened Defence and Midfield, and the best keeper in the league, however, they won’t be going down.

Burnley obviously have history of pulling results out when it's needed but I'm not so sure this season.

To date we have 1 point from 9 games and only 4 goals.

We will need a bassett esque miracle to stay up.

The only thing going for us is that there are 3 teams that are equally terrible. But as things stand, we look doomed.
