Does anyone actually think we will stay up?

I think we'll stay up this season purely based on the idea that there's 3 worse teams than us. But one thing is certain is it isn't going to be pretty or a season to remember, I think the parallels to Bassett's season where we didn't win until christmas are certainly there but I don't see us finishing the season like that team did.
One thing which I'm holding onto is that the fans haven't turned on CW which in these days of knee jerk social media comments can only be seen as a plus, but I really do think that the current system we're playing isn't working and CW needs to look at the strengths of the squad amd come up with a plan 'b' rather than stubbornly sticking to the old guard.
One thing for sure is that I'll still be there next season irrespective of how this ends and getting behind the team.

A few pointers, if I may:

1. 3-5-2 (or even 5-3-2 as it seems to be moreso). Been bled dry. We now know opposition teams have a formula for it. And it works.
2. Crossing. We've never, ever in recent times been good at knocking the ball in from wide and hitting the right man, be it from open play or set pieces
3. Our route to goal. It's been largely through overwhelming in certain parts of the pitch and exploiting weaknesses. That is tremendously difficult in the Premier League, moreso because of point 1. We also are shit sacred of smacking it at goal from distance, even from set pieces.
4. 'The killer pass'. Never happens. Look at Man City yesterday. They were all about this.
5. Overlapping Centre Backs. Done to death. Now we are seriously losing it all over the pitch, the centre backs are pinned down and reluctant to press forward. We also only have two CBs who can do this effectively and threaten. One is out, and as things go, might never return (if we are relegated)
6. Wingbacks. Now staring to show their grave limitations.

All points toward a formation change and recruitment of that playmaker and O'Connell replacement. Be a tough call in January if we are still in the relegation spots. No one is going to want to come to a club already seemingly doomed as 'the saviour', and locked into a contract which sees next year in the Championship.

We're running out of time now.

Everyone is talking about goal scoring and rightly so as that is our big weakness on paper. But a goal might not be what lifts this team personally I think a clean sheet against Chelsea would do them all the world of good. It’s what our form and confidence was built upon last season and allowed us to be on the right side of many tight games. And it’s not beyond the realms of possibility either that we give Chelsea a serious game if we can muster up a Liverpool type performance. It’s unfortunate that we had Man City straight after because if we’d had lesser opponents the Liverpool display was something to build on.

Theres 5 teams that can go down

US
WBA
Fulham
Burnley
BHA

I think we've got a good chance once fleck is back and were up to speed

No after the next round of games we'll be rock bottom. If we stay up it will surpass any achievement wilder has previously done but I just can't se it. Dont score enough are conceding at least a goal a game and simply look totally devode of much needed quality.

In all honesty I don't think we'll be relegated. On paper our start didn't look that difficult however if you look at who we've faced and how they have performed in general then it starts to look tough.

Wolves - Will push the Top 4 this season IMHO and barring the 1st 10 minutes we more than held our own.
Villa - Won their 1st 4 games. Sending off doesn't happen and we get at least a point.
Leeds - Have started really well. Undone by a late goal and could quite easily been leading at that point on another day.
Arsenal - Decent side. Poor decisions cost us.
Fulham - Great 1st half and if McB had bought his shooting boots we'd have been out of sight.
Liverpool - Poor decisions again. Deserved at least a point.
Man City - Poor all round. Didn't deserve anything.

To conclude we've been in every game apart from City and on other days could've had more points and everything wouldn't look so depressing but here we are.

I still think CW will find a way to change it as long as he doesn't get stubborn like Warnock did and still feel there are 3 worse sides than us.

I'd also like to add that from a purely personal point of view I'm actually really not that bothered either way. Apart from mixing with the better teams I actually haven't really enjoyed the Premier League. VAR has killed the enjoyment for me and to be rid of that wouldn't be the end of the world.

I think there are a few more who will be in the mix over the course of the season mate.

Really ? Who ?

I’d add palace Newcastle but they’ve got a ten point head start on us

Palace definitely. Spam have Antonio out for a month and we have all seen how Moyes has performed their previously over long periods.. Then at the risk of being berated, I will add in Leeds and Villa, over the full season. They both got off to a flyer, but there is a long way to go. I am not saying that these teams will drop into the bottom 3 for sustained periods, but I do think that these are the teams who will be catchable by those who are down there.

For me we've forgotten how we used to play, it's so defensive and embarrassing to watch, wilder always said he'd rather lose 4-3 and go down fighting and I don't know what we're doing these days, it's like somebody beamed him up and stuck a fucking jelly head in his tracksuit, I don't get it.. He knows us and we know him but our play wouldn't worry hilda ogdens fucking rollers at the moment...

I'm embarrassed at the minute, the rest of the prem are playing some great stuff knocking them in left right n centre, and before the ball is kicked we all know what we're gonna see from united..

Pump it to mcburnie, lay it off, go left or right of the box, overplay it in 5 passes on the edge, put a wank cross in that'll be cleared because the defence have reset and there's 9 in the box defending.. Then run like fuck to get back to defending cause we've turned the ball over and they're hitting us on the break with a couple of whippets.

Can the real Chris wilder please stand up, it's like the fucking bodysnatchers have took him.. No guts no glory.. Come on ffs, have a go, go down fucking fighting at least and we (the blades) won't give a fuck will we.. Whip the crosses in, fuck the floated cross off we lose anyway with pace on or off the ball.. It doesn't matter. We get back to what were good at.. And we fail we fucking fail.. We'll be fine..

10 games in, that's the time to worry if we're still rooted to the bottom.. The quality of the league means no amount of up and at em Christmas pudding cockney knees up shenanigans won't save us this time.. God bless Harry, but that won't ever happen again.. Its the quality.. Its the best league on the planet, and no walk in the park, but have a fucking go will you.. And we'll follow you all the way..

When we started last season, the team almost picked itself. Certainly in defence and midfield with a bit of rotation up front. Since we bought Berge, it feels like he doesn't know what his strongest midfield set up is. We've had Norwood, Berge and Ampadu all play in that deeper role. Fleck is out so we've had Osborn and Lundstram on the left side. I can't help feeling that Luke Freeman would have been better there. It's like he doesn't really want to play Norwood as he was going on about how important it is to have mobility, but without him we lose any creativity and set piece craft we've had. Lundstram's set pieces have been awful. The one corner we got against City, we had Berge taking it, a good corner to be fair, but surely a lad of 6 foot 5 would be better employed in the box.

What's happened to our ingenuity at set pieces? In League 1 and the Champ we were trying different routines, so much so that articles were being written about it. Now we just seem to use that stock corner to the back post for Egan to head back across.

Can't draw any conclusions from last two matches except that an agragate 3-1 over 180 minutes to two of best teams in the world is no disaster. Got to see us play more of the lesser teams to form a conclusion. Not much has gone right for 10 games and yet morale is such that we gave pl champs a tough match just one game back. Perspective is needed as well as hope at this point.

of course we will stay up , we are better than at least 7 clubs in this division

look at villa , 7 v liverpool one home game let in 7 in next 2 home games
no places are at risk till february at the earliest
38 points is normally safety, we can win 11 or 12 of the last 31 and draw 4 or 5

any team can

despite this start we are still only 2 wins behind Manchester United, are they in danger

Back at the start of the season after the Wolves game,i did a 5 game result/score prediction, scores were off and the only result i got wrong i thought would have been our only win.

Villa (A) lose 2-1
Leeds (H) lose 2-0
Arsenal (A) lose 3-0
Fulham (H) win 1-0
Liverpool (A) lose 4-0

There are another five coming up that could all follow the same pattern,my predictions are.
Chelsea (A) Lose 3-0
West Ham Utd (H) Lose 1-0
WBA (A) Draw 0-0
Leicester (H) Lose 2-0
Southampton (A) Lose 4-1

I think we'll improve (difficult not to) but our appalling start will be our undoing in my opinion, and we'll go down. As others have alluded, that fighting / defiant tone from Chris's post match interviews has disappeared, it's almost like he doesn't believe we're quite good enough this time around (IMO).

The bookmakers make it a 45% chance that we get relegated (we're not one of the 3 favourites) so I'd suggest that all those on this thread who think it's inevitable should re-mortgage and lump on because that sort of value comes around once in a lifetime.

If the season plays out I think we will just survive - we need a bit of confidence back, ball in the back of the oppositions net will help and some creativity (Jan transfer window) - need to start getting the ball in the box quicker, decent crosses. Come on lades, we can do this!! God I'm optimistic.

All those saying we should go toe to toe with Man City and Liverpool will disappear (or continue to incorrectly argue it was the right thing) when our goal difference gives us an extra couple of places at the end of the season. Yes we could've got a point but who was going to score? Are Chelsea still playing that disaster in goal? We won't go toe to toe but playing Wilder's game will reap more benefit and it could be a point next game.
