All my hope evaporated after the result and performance against Fulham. Clinging onto a draw at the death at home to your relegation rivals who missed a penalty, and we had to score from one to get that point.

The performance against Liverpool was good and hopeful but again we didn’t score from open play. Yesterday we didn’t look like doing so at all. We haven’t all season. Coupled with our defensive frailties and our lack of options to change the system I just don’t see how we can. We look shot.

Chris’ solution of ‘the players need to play better’ isn’t gonna cut it. We were dreadfully short of creativity and did nothing to change that. The transfer window apparently being the best one of our lifetime was always a bit far fetched to me because of that. It clearly wasn’t.

Does anyone think differently? If so, why? Convince me and many others than we aren’t as good as down

Its a shame to see Watkins and Maupey in the top goal scorers list. I’d have loved either one of those strikers.
Brewster I hope will get us the goals but if doesn’t we are definitely going down.

Missing JackO and Fleck is another big issue but I also think Wilders has lost his go get em attitude we all loved.

I am not 100% sure you can blame the strikers we have!

we aren’t giving them the chances to score. ok mcburnie has snatched at a couple, but when you get only get one half chance a match. It’s incredibly difficult (unless you’re aguero).

Me too, and I think especially with what's happened in 2020, it's ok not to be able to explain things.....we get gut feelings, and those can happen, when it makes no sense to yourself, or anyone else!!

Now the important point is cleared up, let me say, I think we'll stay up, by the way. Because loads of teams start the season badly and recover. And if our manager has shown us anything it's that he's capable of miracles, and this situation doesn't yet require anything at all like a miracle.

I am always optimistic about what Wilder and his team can achieve, and I am not about to change that now.

It's still very early doors, and whilst I can see all the reasons that many are stating for us not staying up, I also agree with some others that our points tally doesn't really reflect our performances overall. Yes we are seen as toothless at the moment, but there have been a few big chances missed by Lundtram & McBurnine. Brewster is still finding his feet and it sounds like Mousset and Fleck could be back before too long. I also don't think we deserved what happened to us against Leeds or Villa, so from a defensive point of view, we could just as easily have 2 clean sheets on the board too.

Another thing that gives me hope is that this season is throwing up some crazy results, and some of those who got off to a flyer are now having their wings clipped a bit and could easily get sucked into the mini league by the end of the year. This includes everyones new favourites Leeds and Villa.

That being said, we need to get 4 points from November, and then 5 or 6 from December. Many will wonder how we will get those on current form, but that is where the leap is required I suppose. We have been written off so many times in the past, and have always come up trumps eventually. This is just another huge challenge that Wilder has to deal with.

Get that first win on the board, and I think the mojo will come back, hopefully anyway.

We need to somehow get to around 12 -15 points by the time the transfer window opens and then look to kick on in the new year, hopefully with a creative midfielder added to the squad.

10 wins and three draws from now takes us to 34 points which I think will be enough this season, it looks a long way off at the moment but it’s not yet mission impossible.

We do need a change in mindset from the management team though.

We finished 9 the last season with virtually the same squad

We have a great manager and coaching staff lauded by many including klopp and guardiola

We have key injured players to come
back

We had barely any pre season and fitness is key to our style of play as the season goes on this will improve

We are bedding in several youngsters / new players who are adjusting ,this is known as a transition period and was necessary

We are low on confidence after a bad start but hard work and mental toughness are characteristics that get you through bad patches ,luckily the players have more than the fans

Fuck it mate what's the worst can happen ? Its only a game ,no need to spend 24 hrs a day on a football forum crying about it isn't help ing anyone

We need something drastic to spark us into life - change of formation, trying new players in the existing system, or existing players in new positions. I’d put Basham in midfield as he’s been one of our most creative players. And we need to find some creative flair in January.

I’m still confident we’ll stay up. We have payers like Berge and Ramsdale and Ampadu who are looking better by the match.

The one thing we do need to do is stop fannying about with the ball on the edge of the penalty area and whip it in. Give the front two and others a bit of service and we’ll start scoring goals.

As it is they’re not getting the opportunity.

Unsworth was step up and blast a pen he had good accuracy.
With Lunny ,watching his recent shots it could go anywhere most likely high and wide.
He could be bought up by an NFL team looking for a field goal kicker,their wages are good.

Hard to make a confident case for us to stay up, however, it is all but the same squad as last year. Certainly no weaker, even if you'd argue the money could have been spent differently.

Granted we have a few injuries, and many players out of form, but I don't buy it that we've become nailed on relegation certainties so quickly.

Wilder, for me anyway, has enough credit in the bank but I do feel his stubbornness is not helping.

All said and done it's only just November, so whilst I understand the negativity (based on the results AND performances), people are a little quick to write us off (and the new signings).

Berge is a classic example. 3 or 4 games in and the vast majority on here were saying he was a waste of money, now half the forum says he's the only decent player we've got!

I'm now 60/40 on going down/staying up. I absolutely think we're more than capable of staying up, comfortably at that.
The logic behind that is simply we still have the players that were capable of a top 10 finish last season, and we've added another couple of attacking options and depth at wing back.
In addition I think brining Fleck and Moose back will have a big impact on our attacking abilities. There's numerous players who are currently playing within themselves and are capable of massive improvement. Baldock, McBurnie, McGoldrick and Stevens especially.
We are capable of putting a really decent run together, it's just whether we can do the early enough to have enough of an impact on the final league position.

It's easy to feel really deflated just now, and I'm not going to claim we're unlucky to be down where we are, because whilst we could've gotten something from a couple of matches, we could've easily lost to Fulham. What I would say though is that we know this team is capable of remarkable things. Even post lockdown we were immense v Chelsea and Spurs, we still are that team.
They just need to remember that.
