United, under our current ownershipcan't afford 5 million plus buig wages for a bloke in his late 20s with little resale value. For that reason I'm glad he went elsewhere.

So do I. Getting a job with Derby is hardly serving an apprenticeship in mangement. I hope he doesn’t make it to the JTW

Personally I hope he does well (obviously not at the expense of United).

It would be good to get more English managers in the Premier League and at top clubs where they have a chance of winning something.

i reckon we 'can' afford it. i also reckon Wilder and Knill came to the same conclusion as John did (and most of Scotland btw) .. yeah i want one. but i'm not paying 'that' much

His mate Lineker put the boot in didn't he. To be honest I'm ambivalent and don't really care if he does well or not. I just don't think it follows that good players make good managers. In his interview after the game he looked totally shell shocked. Time will tell.

We could have broken our model. I think it would've been an extremely risky move, unless Wilder has some insight into new budgets for next season in which these type of fees will be the norm for United.David Brooks type money doesn't grow on trees. If we weren't promoted with Waghorn in the next few years, we'd have no money and no big asset to sell.If he was early to mid 20s, it would've made much more sense imo.

The players we've paid decent money for thus far, and their current ages :

Egan: 25 (biggest financial outlay by far)
Lundstram:24 (second biggest signing at 700k).
Baldock: 25
Lee Evans: 24 (sold for profit).
O'Connell: 24 (less than 300k)
Moore: 28 (300k, biggest signing of Wilder's first season).
Carruthers: 25 (out on loan).
Leonard: 26.

The outliers:
Holmes: 31 (out on loan).
Stearman 30 (300k).

Yeah think we have dodged a bullet there... in his defence he's hardly played pre-season..I'm sure he'll go to prove to be the average-ish Championship striker that he is.
£5 million though eh? Thought Ipswich were holding out for £8million! :D

I personally hope lampard flops, sick of the sky sports 'frank lampards derby county' already!
He seems an articulate and knowledgable chap. He’s was wrongly shunned/blamed constantly in favour of Gerard for England and massively under rated while at Chelsea by most fans.
He was harshly judged and criticised as being not good enough, while winning cups and titles throughout his career and I can’t recall him every moaning or kicking off about it.
Ultimately as a young English manager in the football league, I hope he plays good football, shows real promise, so long as it’s not at our expense.

Our Chrissie will be there soon enough. Sean Dyche gets all the credit but will never be offered a top 6 job and neither will Lampard

Lampard and Gerrard have the playing careers that could help land them a top job (basically at Chelsea and Liverpool).

They’ve obviously got to prove themselves in their current jobs first.
