Utterly mental that anyone can fail to realise that the people walking away from SUFC are loyal, devoted Blades who are just fed up with the spin and bullshit from the top and the disgraceful lack of talent on show on the pitch.
It's their choice to walk away... I would question the fact that they are still "diehard" and "loyal" if a blip in the second tier of English football and a continuation of a load of crap from the Boardroom are their reasons. There was all sorts of shit going on in the 90s when for the most part, we were in the very same position we're in now. What made it good enough to support the team then but not now? More chances to whinge about it on the internet and appear to be some kind of martyr? I know in the case of some that they talk a good game but haven't actually set foot in the ground for the best part of 5 years.
Why are some people happy to believe those in the Board when what they are saying is negative, but they won't believe a single word if what they say is positive?
What galvanised my support for United through the 90s was the feeling that it was Us v. Them. Now it feels like it's Us v. Other Blades. I think the message from the top from the bottom has to be "you're either with us or not, sod you". I want players who'll die for the shirt and a support-base who'll spend their time at the Lane supporting and not using the earliest opportunity to boo... whether that be 12000 or 20000. I also know fans who are staying away because they can't bear to see a club they love derided by people who've rolled up in the last five years, know it all and take the first opportunity to try and start a fight with people because they aren't on the team's back.
I want us to play like Barcelona, but I'm not going to throw my teddies out of the pram because, in the twenty years I've been going, we haven't had the players so why should I expect that now? I want the players to play with a bit of passion and actually look bothered... I don't want us to get relegated, but doing so would be a massive wake up call to the players we have now... especially if some have clauses written into the contracts signed recently.
I know trying to make the best of what seems like an increasingly hopeless situation might be "mental" for some, but I guess that's just the way I am.
On another note, I don't take kindly to being called "mental" nor would I take kindly to any of our members' sanity being questioned for voicing an honestly held opinion. So cut it out.
