Call it what you like bad luck, bad management, conspiracy theories, bad refereeing, Shitty FA, Love for London clubs. There are many things you could think of to describe what has happened to us over the last 20+ years but its never straight forward is it. Examples below

1993 Wembley v pigs. Twaddle fires a ball in from some 30 yards never hit a ball like it in his life and probably didn't again. We lose the FA cup semi final 2-1.

1994 Relegation from the premier league by a single point on the last day in the last minute sounds straight forward but we find out later that a certain goalkeeper in another game was betting on the outcome it just happened to be the team that stopped up.

1997 Playoff final Wembley became the place for wonder goals against united and this was no exception David Hopkin pops up not in the 30th minute or maybe the 60th minute but no the 90th minute with a wonder strike to win the game.

1997-1999 We get a mixture of managers some high profile some a waste of space.

2002 Battle of Bramall Lane Will never to be forgot in the history of football united get players sent off and some get injured leaving us with 7 men so the game can not continue, WBA are awarded the points. There manager happens to be much loved Gary Smegson. It was a perfect excuse for the papers to have a go they were loving it.

2003 FA Cup Semi final 2 championship sides and 2 premier league sides will contest the 2 semis funnily enough the prem sides are kept apart in the draw and we get Arsenal. During the game the ref decides to collide with Tonge as he is about to pick up the ball, Arsenal take it on and score the only goal of the game.

2003 Playoff final here we go again but this time we all thought different after 2 great cup runs and a good league campaign we went to the millenium stadium (not wembley) to play wolves. All season our midfield partnership of Brown, Tonge and McCall had done the business but on this day NW decides to disrupt this and play Mark Rankine why why why neil???? the game ended 3-0 to Wolves.

2006 We have a season in the premier league full of controversy, we are the first team to be relegated on the last day on goal difference by a single goal, then the tevez affair West spam field a player who is not properly registered and they stay up on the last day winning at Old Trafford through a tevez goal. We all know what happened next.

2009 Off we go to the playoff final AGAIN back at Wembley. After finishing 3rd in the league again we were favourites to go up but instead of coming with a strong side we turn up with one fit loanee striker Craig Beattie not James, Craig. Burnley our opponents on the day go on to win 1-0 with another cracking strike.

2010-11 We start the season with Mr Hoof still in charge he is sacked in August and we appoint Gary Speed, he wasn't pulling any trees up but we were starting to settle. He gets offered the Wales job and off he went, We appoint Micky Adams life long blade no one expected how bad a run he would have and down to the 3rd tier of English football we went.

2012 After what was a good end to 2011 we continued into 2012 with Danny Wilson in charge playing great football and we have a striker scoring for fun. Then with only 3 games to go in the season with us 2nd in the league that striker gets sent down for 5 years bye bye and we are left with the scraps to try and get us up.

There has been some ups and downs over the years lots of excitement normally followed by heartache, it is all part and parcel of being a blade and i wouldn't change it for the world.
However i just look and think god is the whole world against us the Tevez affair, now cheds trial if he gets off and we don't go up where does that leave us?? We get slagged in the papers when ever possible our local radio station seems to hate us and love the club down the road, as does the local newspaper. Why us? did we do something wrong? Everything seems a battle and you feel as though everyone wants you to fail.

No. No, I don't.

Let's not turn ourselves into Liverpool (without the trophies and kit deal).

I am just making the point that everything seems to happen to us, Tevez affair, Lose our top scorer with 3 games to go, it never happens to us when it doesn't matter.

Couple of points:

1994: you are insinuating Hans Segers bet against his team, Wimbledon, to lose at Everton. Any evidence of this?

2003: re the FA cup draw conspiracy theory. The next season also had 2 PL and 2 2nd tier teams in the semis. The 2 PL teams and the 2 2nd tier teams were drawn against each other and we ended up with a Man Utd v Millwall final.

no no not at all i am simply saying it always happens to us, the 2004 draw is a prime example why didn't it happen to us why didn't we get Wolves and not Arsenal. I thought the keeper we convicted??

2003 - One year after letting a goal kick of a free kick sail over his head in the World Cup, David Seaman pulls off the 2nd second best save of all time.

Oh and you forgot the Kanu goal.

I knew there was something else, again i ask have you seen it before or again no its always us.

No, Segers wasn't convicted, he was acquitted of match fixing in 1994 along with Grobelaar and Fashanu.

I agree that we seem to have more than our fair share of bad look. As Oldblade and I have pointed out, 1984 is the only occasion when an unlikely set of results worked in our favour. In 1981, 1994 and 2007 the opposite happened. We have also been in 5 play offs and lost them all (when the law of averages would suggest we would have won at least 1). Add the fact that we have not won anything since 1925 or been runners up in anything since 1936 (and 49 other clubs have been winners or runners up in a major trophy since 1936) and I think we have a strong case that United fans have suffered more than most other clubs' fans over the past few decades....

Four teams have three ways of being drawn. If there are 2 championship teams (C1 and C2) and two premiership teams (P1, P2) then the three possibilities are:

P1 v P2, C1 v C2
P1 v C1, P2 v C2
P1 v C2, P2 v C1

The Premiership teams are twice as likely to be "kept apart" as they are to meet. It didn't "happen to us", it just happened in a perfectly predictable and logical way :-)

Do you ever feel as though the world is against our beloved club??

Yes. Yes I do.

But I'll tell you one thing, it ain't ever boring...

The FA must have forgotten to put the PL balls in the microwave and the Championship balls in the freezer prior to the draw then.

I challenge any lawyer in the land to question my assertion that Hans Segers played like an extra from Jossy's Giants that day.

Oh, and Manchester United once had 8 players killed in an air crash. That didn't happen to us.

That and the diving c**t Limpar...

1994 wasnt just unlikely results, Everton beating Wimbledon wasn`t that unlikely, but the fact that Wimbledon were 2-0 up before the dive made it extremely unlikely.

West Ham winning at Man U was unlikley. Almost as unlikely as Wycombe winning at Hillsborough...

...of course Wycombe don`t have a World Class Argentinian, signed on a dodgy contract, whose registration was cancelled, then re-instated in record time, despite no removal of the dodgy contract, playing for them...

Whilst a terrible tradgedy, i would argue that in the long term it is that incident that actually turned Man U into a world famous football club.

In answer to your question:

All the f'kin time!!!!

Someone connected to our club must have run over about 45 black cats or somat!

Come on, he had no chance with the first two goals (a pen and a brilliant strike). Yes, letting in the third goal was an awful error, but goalies make awful errors all the time (Simmo anyone?). You'll need a lot more than that to build a corruption case...

Looking at the vid above, the pen for Wimbledon's first goal (given for hands against Limpar) was extremely dubious, but we tend not to remember that....

Personally I don't think the world is against us, but we are very unlucky.

3 playoff finals, not scoring a goal and not even being close to being in with a chance of winning any of them. Law of averages on having 3 matches like that is pretty slim.

The 2 last day relegations from the prem. I do think we would have bitten the bullet under Bassett eventually though, you could argue we were a little bit lucky in 91 and 93 to stay up - the difference in those seasons is that it felt like we earned that luck, whereas in 94 and 06 the sheer number of events that had to transpire is ridiculously unlucky.

This year, getting the amount of points we have and looking like not gaining auto - is also pretty unlucky.

In relatively recent times, Leicester is the only real occasion where it felt like we did it in the big one (even though in the end we would have gone up even losing...), whereas we have seemingly countless other big ones where it goes the other way, Saturday being a latest example.

One day - it'll change, just have to be patient :)

The end of the 92-93 season saw we could do it when the pressure was on. Our last 4 games had 3 consecutive away - at Wednesday, Forest and Everton and then our last game at home to Chelsea. I remember us losing our penultimate home game 3-1 to Blackburn to really put the pressure on (I think we were maybe one point above the drop zone). We then drew at Wednesday and won at Forest on Saturday 1st May (sending them down) and that looked to have done the job as, if nearest rival Oldham, lost at Villa the following Monday, we were safe. Villa finished 2nd that season, so that looked a good bet, but Oldham won 1-0, putting the pressure back on United.

On Tuesday 4th May, we then went to Everton and put in a thoroughly professional performance to win 2-0 and make us safe barring a massive goal difference turnaround. We then beat Chelsea 4-2 in our last game to finish a respectable 14th (albeit over 3 points above the relegation zone).

That was before the three play-off final defeats, before three of the four Cup semi-final defeats and before the two against-all-odds Premier league relegations.
Those were the days when we believed the impossible could happen because we'd consistently SEEN the impossible happen under Bassett.
There was a belief about the club that permeated from the manager to the players to the fans and back again.

The opposite is true nowadays and fans believe that we'll fail, because we have so many times before and that belief spreads to the players and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But I'm making the Jossy's Giants case.

I can't for the life of me remember the 5th play off defeat - Palace, Sunderland, Wolves, Burnley and ................

?

I can think of a number of clubs currently languishing in the conference (and below) that could claim worse luck.
