A lot of people say we need a new striker, but look at the other areas of the pitch.
Our defence is very weak and prone to leaking goal plus our midfield is very weak and lacking a tough ball winning midfielder to sit behind the defence.
So do we really need a striker??

1 goal in 2 games, possibly 1 goal in 3 after tonight

yes we need a striker

For me, we need to start playing players in their correct positions. Bring Baxter and Doyle back in too.

Howard
Alcock Collins McGahey Harris
Doyle
Scougall Baxter
Flynn Murphy
Higdon
SIMPLES!

No thankyou to Doyle .... we need a presence not a passenger and either Scougal or Baxter not both. Too lightweight for this agricultural division.

We need a football team that shows up for a start.

Clough needs to remind them that a match is not 20 minutes long.

Isn't the OP trying to say we've actually addressed the problem by signing Higdon and McNulty and we need to be getting them the chances before we go and get another striker?

Chicken and egg at the moment. Do we need a better midfield to create chances or better strikers to convert the little they've been presented with at the moment?

NB: That doesn't discount the possibility we actually need BOTH!

Interestingly how many tap ins and easy chances have we missed? I'm not saying I have the solution, but you have to say do we have bad strikers (they don't score and miss easy chances) or are we not very good at creating the chances for people to miss.

Could be we aren't creating so even Messi would struggle to score. My feeling is this is at least part the problem. Our possession stats aren't as good as last season and our crosses into the box doesn't feel to be as good or consistent as last season.

Randomly, Michael Doyle started in our only win so far this season vs. Mansfield. He also started in our last win before that - Fenerbache.

Even more randomly, he didn't start against York, Bristol City or Coventry which we lost. Is it "random"? Is it "coincidental"? Or, am i actually onto something.

People need to get over this obsession with hating Doyle.

Nah we got the best strikers in the world already. What we really need is a nice new pitch. Preferably green, i hate those blue ones they play tennis on.

Depends on how we're going to play. Cloughie seems to prefer the lone striker option, switching to 442 only when we're desperate to score.

He's signed Higdon as his main first choice striker with McNulty as the 442 option. Higdon isn't even match sharp and has only played for us three times but he's already getting written off.

So those who think we need another striker please clarify;

a) do we revert to 442 and get rid of Scougall and Baxter? (Or try playing them as centre mids and ask them to do defensive work)
b) Find a top notch striker and ask him to join us as cover for Higdon?
c) Find a top notch striker and relegate Higdon to the bench two weeks after signing him from the Eredivisie?

Or d) Sign another really good striker and play 2 up top because you are more confident someone is going to stick it in the back of the net when the chance arises.

A top notch striker would be essential if we can find one, ideally to play next to Higdon. Not sure Higdon is getting written off already? I think Higdon is a good striker, not sure about McNulty but hopefully he will be aswell. At the moment if Higdon doesnt score where are the goals going to come from? I like the idea of playing Baxter behind Higdon in the no.10 role aswell with scoogs and reid then doyle behind and flynny and murphs out wide.

Bottom line is the main reason we havent got promoted in the last 2 seasons is goals, they dont have to come from Strikers but thats mainly where they should come from. But our Midfielders (and to a lesser degree our defenders) need to score aswell. I think Murphy, Baxter and Scoogs have goals in them, and also Flynn.

McGinn and Porter also played in both them matches,so do you want them 2 playing aswell?

Like you said in another post, just get our players playing in their normal position and that will be for starters.

How is that different to a)?

couldn't agree more with mattbianco1 do people not realise how good Doyle is some people must watch football with there eyes closed.
