ok, so I'm not one for constantly changing things, but the way this season's going even if we make the play-offs, can anyone see us beating MK or Swindon over two legs? This season has been mishandled badly from start to finish, which has been kind of off-set by the cup exploits.

My suggestion would be to try something completely different. Play wingbacks. Play 3 at the back. something like, when all fit:

Howard
Brayford - Kennedy - Basham (sw) - J-Mac - Harris
Doyle - Reed
Murphy (free role)
Done - Davis

Let the fullbacks bomb on with the cover from Reed and Doyle. Let Murphy have a free role. Just go for it every game.

When all fit is the major bit in that ,otherwise I would go with that although its a toss up between Coutts and Reed whoever is most up to it at the time.

I went for Reed over Coutts just on the basis of the amount of running he does. It's a formation where you'd need both centre mids to do a lot of covering.

Annoyingly our main problem is now our defence. Se have started to ship too many goals of late and this doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. With players like Murphy, Done and even the likes of Baxter, the Beard, McNulty, Che Adams, and hopefully Davies we seem to have goal threats but going down a goal or two on a regular basis is making life very hard to get enough good results to stay in the playoffs let alone get promotion that way.

Dont think it is wise to have a young player playing too often in the last two matches of the season when there is a lot of pressure

Too late in the season for him to try something revolutionary. But I would like him to have a Plan B that changes shape. Todays subs with no change to the shape was bizarre.

From a distance l cannot understand why a pro team could let two gaols in at the end on Tuesday. As you say the season has been mis managed, l got the distinct feeling we were not ready for the start of the season. I just hope that if we can put out a consistent team they will gel with an amazingrun through the play offs.

ahha - another one of my chestnuts - our pre season was abysmal, culminating in the poor start.
Our pre season consisted of continual change of team - a sort of dolly mixtures approach. Don't particularly mind that but why didn't we play 12 pre season games instead of just 6 - we could have had a Saturday team and a midweek team with subtle changes.
Our mixed fortunes during the season could stem from a strange and weird pre season.

A big factor in this season for me. That and not dealing with our obvious striker problem and Clough falling out with half our CBs

find your best team stick with that team an let the players go out and express themselves, instead of them looking worried to make a mistake! Give the players freedom to play and express themselves... Clough will never do this!

Robbie I couldn't see us beating ANY team in this league over two legs !.

In my opinion we do not have a strong enough central midfield two therefore we have to play 4-5-1. Get back to basics, get a decent commanding centre half in to play alongside Kennedy on concentrate on clean sheets and nicking a winner like last season. Drop Harris and put JMAC at left back.
Get pace wide (Murphy and Done) and we must start with Davies or Davies to use the target man.
At least one of the central midfield three would have to run beyond the front line which means Scougill or Holt need to play with possible Doyle and Basham behind them.
All this is subject to no injuries and suspensions obviously but yesterday should how weak we are at centre half in in central midfield if we play 4-4-2

And another of my chestnuts is that, if we're going to play shite like Alfreton, we might as well not bother. Play seriously competitive games against the likes of Fenerbahçe or don't bother. That way, we could 'hit the ground running' when the season starts.

But of course it goes much deeper than pre-season friendlies. Near the start of the season, with ten minutes left, we started playing for time in the corner flag area. We were at home. To Crawley. Imagine the message that sends out to teams like Bristol City? On the opening day, they came here and gave us a spanking. Their attitude from minute one was to grab this division by the balls and not let go till the rest had had enough. Oh, to have determination like that!
