Wards was rank, never liked it and never got why people did like it. In my eyes Cask Stoornes was the nectar of the gods back in the day, although in all honesty neither Wards or Stoornes would even get a look in with all the top quality real ales that are available now
A good pint of Wards was the best beer I have ever had. And it was nectar at the Norfolk Arms on Warren Lane, Chapeltown after a good home win.But like all cask beers it needed to be kept well. And bad wards could be very bad!! Mmmm Wards

I always tended to think the Pomona and the Devonshire were just a little bit neither here nor there when it came to Ecclesall Road. I always liked the Nursery, and Champs although it was a bit expensive.

Ecclesall Road back in the day used to prime location to discreetly meet ladyfriends if i didn't want to be seen, as it was the opposite end of town to where all my mates live.

One of the best land lords we had at our local in recent years kept great real ale, Chatting to him one night he said how he had started as a trainee at Wards. In those days, you learned how the beer was brewed, so you understood the process, then you were sent out to "shadow" an old-school pub landlord. You basically followed him round for six months, watched what he did, and most importantly, learned how to look after the beer and keep a good cellar. He said that if you could keep Wards (which could be temperamental) in good shape, you could look after anything.

He now runs a pub in Staffordshire, but still comes to the Lane for every home game. A true Blade who can serve you great beer, doesn't get much better than that!

To be honest no one on here actually knows if any players are disruptive.

So you mean all the..I've been told...I would imagine..from what I'm hearing..posts are a load of bollocks?

Have a few likes LS26

no just a bit of detective work and yes it was the other side pf those garages. How ironic that people pay up to a quarter of a million to live in flats that look at Exeter drive and the people in Exeter drive are mainly on benefits looking at the expensively put together old brewery.

The flats on the site of the brewery cost the MD of the company subcontracting his job because it was something of a shambles.

Crown on Chesterfield Road in the nineties was Wards best outlet per square foot. Cracking beer but still not as good as when it smelled vile. Soon forgot about that on the first taste though.

Pete Drabbles Stones in the Globe ( and Teds in the Forty Foot) took some beating.

Then there was draft Magnet......

(Still available in the Wyvern).

They are shoeboxes ,awful and hugely over priced. I miss the smell that you used to get at the bottom of Eccy Rd and Bridge St in the 70s ,some hated it ,I loved it

. It's now become a joke between these players to constantly bitch about the rest of the squad and the management via social media

quite a revelation is that! Any more info to back it up?? Other than a few daft things from Sparky's mate a while back I haven't seen any of this , not on twitter anyway and I do keep an eye out. Sparky has actually been trying to quite reasonably answer some questions from fans recently.

One of my Uncles worked all his life and ended up a charge hand at Tennants Brewery on Exchange Street. Gold Label before it was. "Let down " was a family perk. Very good heated up for colds.

The maltiness at Eccy Road was better though.

Sparky is probably the only one Ive not seen totally revolt against the management. The most clear example I can think of on their open Twitter account would be when digirodickhead tweeted and then there were 4 in reference to the amount of players training away from the team after freeman's move (I'm 95% certain it was about that anyway). The players do have private accounts as well btw and also private message on the various networks.

dint see the Diego one. I'm sure they have private accounts as well but how have you got wind of what's been said on that? ITK?

I have one player's (thankfully one of the good ones) private accounts due to a family connection but that isn't much use to this matter. As well as this player, I have a couple of other links that give me the odd bit on info. So, i probably don't find that much out but when I do I'm reliably informed so I guess you could say 'itkish'. What I'm talking about now was gained from two sources.

ok, interesting. It's obvious that summat is wrong big time behind the scenes, and possibly has been since the 13/14 close season (would like to know what really happened with Butler, Doyle and Collins then). Stories/rumours about Sparky,Che,McGahey and Baxter etc haven't helped either.

Both Baxter stories I can confirm, I can also confirm butler had a bust up with Collins and clough and Collins later had another bust up with clough (collins was in the right) and was frozen out. I was actually chatting to Collins about this on one of the pissed up pre season trips this year (great day btw). Doyle wasn't particularly matey with clough either. Don't know about anything with sparky but the general consensus I gather, from other posters and the like, is that he's a twat.

I'm just glad Cloughie's "background checks" were done thoroughly. A lot of people have legitimate concerns about Hammond but he may be here as Adkins eyes in the dressing room. Same as Clough's ex Derby lads.

So how do you explain Woolford, unless he's here in case Hammond misses something?

think someone on here said Doyle was pally with McCabe's son and when he was leaving he dished some dirt on Clough about the morale in the team etc that may have been instrumental in Clough's sacking?

Havent you seen the tweets from his dad and Marc's mates?Where else would get the info that made them think Marc was unfairly treated at the Lane?
