From the fans charter:

* The club undertake research on the design and number of new strips in conjunction with its manufacturers
* The Club will introduce a new home replica strip and a new away replica design each season. The away replica design will have a lifespan of two years, becoming a second change strip for the second season.
* The length of sponsorship contracts may not always make this possible. In the instance of either a new shirt sponsor or kit manufacturer the club reserve the right to launch new replica kits before the existing kit lifespan has expired.
* Details of intended change of strips will be available from the Club retail outlets and on the web site as soon as they are known.

I don't know why it continues to suprise some people that we do this :)

Please see the thread about the 500 worst things about modern football. Must be something about this in there. A flagrant exploitation of the supporters, especially the plastics or nouveau fans, who think merchandise and corporate imagewear is soooo important. Why be a trendy and follow football if nobody knows you do?

Wasn't aware of this in the fans charter Linz. It's a poor entry though, most other clubs change theirs every 2 seasons. Maybe a subject to bring up in the letter to KM.

If the club charged £20 for shirts at the normal price then i wouldn't be as fussed if they changed it every season

I thought it was well known we changed our shirts every year.

I have no problem with this to be honest, I know it's having to replace them every year, but I only get one per season now anyways.

If the club has to change sponsor then I have no problem with them changing the shirt. I suppose, if they really wanted to rip fans off, they could have charged for the change from white to black background on the logo half way through the season, but to their credit they changed all shirts for free.

It kind of rankles a little bit, but only because I have to buy 3 kits every time they are released

If you really want to feel ripped off you should go and buy the baby sized kit (which is about the size of a dishcloth):

Adult Shirt: £39.99
Junior Shirt: £29.99
Baby Shirt (0-6 months): £29.99

Quite clearly, despite it becoming obsolete within a few months, baby kit is an essential purchase. Should they ever be tempted to cross the divide, and join the dark side, you can spend the rest of his/her life embarrassing them with the photographs of when they were a baby. It is a rip off though, next time you're in the store check out the size of them and compare them to an adult or even junior shirt.

Well there's a little advert of this on the front page of the star.

Brian Howard is the one "modelling" them. That's put fans right off them straight away.

I just don't bother buying them anyway. Only wear them if i play football, so i just get one when they go down to a fiver.

I only buy the shirts to go on holiday in and eventually give away to the waiters so I normally get them later in the season anyway!
Not worn a Blades shirt to a match since we lost to Wolves in the play-off final, and since we lost that I don't think I'll wear one to a game ever again!:cry2:

I know I go on and on about this like a boring old git

...but the purpose of a change of kit is to avoid a clash of colours with the opposition. So logically any change kit (or away kit if you will) should avoid the colours red, white and black!! Ideally as we wear stripes at home, it should be a plain design (or hoops). Also the make-up of the kit should avoid a clash, we wear black shorts at home, so lighter shorts for the away kit; same for the socks. Of course this never happens as this would negate the need for a third kit!!

Just another little query! If the current away kit is black and next years 3rd kit will be black, why a new design? Are we going with new kit suppliers and/or new sponsors?

Maybe blue and black stripes, like Inter?

I hope not... but other teams sometimes substitute opposite colours in their away kits. I just don't like to see us wearing anything blue, ever!

I thought it was the norm these days to change every season.

look at the premiership. I think it's only Newcastle & Man Utd that haven't changed their home strips this season? Correct me if i'm wrong.

It's just the change in times i'm afraid. National shirts used to be every 4 years, that's down to 2 now. At least England rotate it so it either a Home or Away each year. Not both.

I expect us to do the usual. New HOME & AWAY and the Black kit being our third!
