Two years ago my father reached his 90th Birthday. A United supporter from early boyhood he attended the 1936 cup final and although illness prevented him from attending matches (his last was the 1993 semi final where 3 generations of our family sat together to watch our hopes disappear to the old enemy) he was passionate about our team until the day he died. I contacted Sheffield United (by email and in person) to ask if they could send him a birthday card for his birthday ( I even offered to pay for it) and was told to send them an email reminder just before his birthday and they would send him a card. This I did, but no card ever arrived. I was disappointed, but it seemed pointless to pursue it after his birthday had passed.
My father died last October. He used to work for Firth Brown Limited and, as such, he made great use of the Atlas and Norfolk Sports and Social Club (now the SUFC Academy). He played football for the works and later bowls for many years. He loved the ground. So I contacted the club in person (twice) and by telephone (several times) to enquire whether it would be possible to scatter his ashes at the ground directing my. enquiries to the correct person I have still heard nothing from them about whether this would be possible or not and have now been asked by the Funeral Directors to collect my father's ashes which I will now scatter on Parkwood Springs where he used to walk his dog.
I accept the club could have said no to my request but its the not replying that disappoints me so much.
