Just been looking through the stats.

Weir has presided over SUFC going from 1st to 22nd in the league over 8 games.

Amazingly he has overseen the club occupy a lower position in the league following each match he has been in charge. Is this a record?

Assuming a stuffing at Wolves unless he can avoid defeat against Crawley, 13th October could be another record breaker at Coventry. Could be worth a flutter.

Perhaps HRH didn't realise he'd be part of United's 'illustrious history' so soon! Shouldn't laugh, but it beat's crying.

One bright spot (Clapperfact). We've never lost to Wolves in the third tier of English football. We've never scored less than two goals against Wolves in the third tier either.:)

Of course, we have only played Wolves twice in the 3rd tier (1988-89 H W2-0 A D2-2) :-)

Weir has already presided over 2 SUFC records:

1. Our worse start to a season oustide the top 2 divisions
2. The first time ever we have lost 5 consecutive games in the lower divisions.

At the moment, he has the second worst start of any SUFC manager. Only Jimmy Sirrel had a worst start (P8 W0 D2 L6). He probably won't "beat" Sirrel's record as Sirrel did not get a notional 4 points until his 11th game (P11 W0 D4 L7) and then didn't get 5 until his 15th game (P15 W0 D5 L10).

At the moment his start is worse than Adams. After 8 games we had 4 points from 4 draws and 4 defeats under Adams, but had a slightly better GD than we do now. However, we then promptly lost 4 straight games under MA, so barring diaster, Weir's start will probably end up better than Adams'.

So not all doom and gloom...

Good stuff Dazza. Yes I did know we'd only played Wolves twice in the 3rd tier, but hey it's still factually correct!:)

The thing is with this I find you get slightly masochistic, almost wanting undesirable records to occur just because 'we were here and experienced it' but when the match starts rationality takes over thank goodness even if the result is bad!

OK then, let's keep the 'optimism' going......

I thought we might have been bigger than 9/2 to win on Satdi but those who back on the fixed odds will tell you that this is exactly the kind of coupon buster you get every week. Strangely, I think we'll be looking forward to the game more than them.

That's it, back to the doom and gloom

I'm not expecting a definitive answer, but when would the last time be that we were 9/2 to win a league game. Got to be some time ago.

Interesting stuff, but do you seriously think we'll take a draw or a win from our next 4 games? Form/performance suggests not. Maybe a point off Crawley or Port Vale if we are lucky.

Not since we came down I wouldn't have thought. We must have been that price away at Swansea on the final day of 10/11.

In football punditry terms this is exactly the sort of game that would 'throw a spanner in the works'. Like Dazza says tbh is there much evidence that in fact we'll er score a goal? I do think this is the sort of match where we might break the 'run', but then equally we could get well and truly tonked too. Here's for another 2-2 draw Maguire 44, McDonald o.g. 89

Only just noticed the thread title. I think thats the best Weir play on words yet!

Well I'm awaiting the Pig jokes like 'Sheffield United have just gone down with a major illness, they've all got direwier'.

Reminds me of the one broadcast on R5L that Sheff Utd had a new Italian goalkeeper - Dino Zoff (when Deano went to Leeds). And the new Sheff Utd tel number in Jan 1978 515051 following that lovely run of games of losing to Bolton 5-1, Arsenal 5-0 and Sunderland 5-1.
