1 point so far this season doesn't suggest that we are playing well. All teams can list excuses for losses and I've seen enough of them so far this season.

We played ok against Liverpool and well against Fulham for 45 minutes, the rest of the time has been chalk and cheese compared with last season.
 



We've not really played any of the lower spending also rans yet
Arsenal Liverpool man city wolves joined by big spending villa and Leeds
Didnt deserve to lose either of those lat 2
Got our 1 point against the also ran club
We've all the mediocre clubs to come

I hate watching us play at home. It's horrible knowing you should be there. It's so dull right now. Even the high scoring games leave me cold because with nobody there its just like watching a training session. I think the game has lost about 70% of its appeal for me.

The world is wank at the moment, football is part of that. I still think that if we were top of the league or playing like Leeds/Villa then people wouldn't be making as big a thing about the lack of crowds. It's easy to say that it's impacting us more and the crowd can make a difference, but every team is playing without a crowd so it can't just be that.

I've read numerous times on here in the past that the atmosphere at BDTBL is shit but every game without it seems to be exaggerating how good it was now.
 
It's an increasingly difficult thing to grin and bear. We desperately need a win to lift people's spirits so we can forget how shit it is, if only for a fleeting glimpse.

We just need to hope that when we do return, in whatever division that might be, we return to watch a club that has come through the other side of the pandemic in decent financial health. This whole thing has exposed the fragility of footballs' finances and clubs may yet go under. I don't care about watching Sheffield United in the Championship or even League One, as long as I still have a Sheffield United to go to.

But there's no getting away from it, what we're seeing just isn't football. I didn't keep tabs on any of yesterday's results. What little fandom I could replicate by either watching matches in pubs with friends or having people over at mine has now been stripped from me, so I'm watching a match with no fans on my own at home. Last two games I haven't even put my fucking Blades shirt on, which is usually unheard of for me. I just don't see the point.

I don't think the crowd not being there is the big deal people think it is regarding our performances. I disagree that if we were top things would be totally different though. Obviously United being better improves the experience but when we hammered Chelsea and Spurs last season , it still was nowhere near as good as it would have been if we were there. In fact seeing Mcgoldrick get his first goals in front of an empty stadium was actually quite sad.

As for games not involving United I'm finding them almost impossible to watch now. I think most fans around the country are the same. I'd love to see Sky's viewing figures this season compared to last.

I'm annoyed that I can't go the games but I'm equally annoyed about other civil liberties that I've always taken for granted being withheld as well.

I think the "falling out with football" argument is based on our performances. No one can attend games and not all football fans think that it's shit at the moment. It's just ten times worse than if you were there for those who do actually attend games. If the option was 'play in front of crowds when we can or not at all', I'd take it (but this would be different if we were performing well).
 
I’m the same......i’ve lost a significant level of interest too

The reason isn’t due to our poor results (altho it doesn’t help)....the reason is because although my head says these are “real” PL matches.
Seeing no one in the ground......my heart and instincts tell me we are currently playing a string of behind closed doors pre season friendlies.
Of course I want us to win...but like in pre-season friendlies...the results aren’t that important.
There are positives to this attitude. I no longer have pre-match nerves and losing doesn’t spoil my weekend...like it used to do.

Of course I still intend to buy a season tIcket and return.
I’ve been going to the Lane for 45 years and will never give up...as I think of them as family
and I suspect that once crowds are back...my enthusiasm will return.

What I don’t accept is a reduced 10K maximum capacity, big queues with staggered entry times to get it and get out of the stadium.
Massive queues and waiting at the kiosks etc. I’m not very patient so unless we’re close to how it was before I won’t be going.

I can't even be arsed to watch the three minute highlights on Sky Sports youtube. Still loads of the mad goalfests I haven't caught up with. It's bizarre to think that United are in the Premier League and I haven't been this apathetic since the season we went down from the Championship.

Just hope when we can get back into the grounds it isn't with conditions that seek to permanently alter the match-day experience away from what it once was into something more commercialised and sanitised. It wouldn't surprise me.
 
Agree with all the reasons of disinterest and also (I have put in a previous post) no pub banter before and afterwards and as I have been made redundant nothing at work either. For me the friendly piss taking or grudging praise (giving or taking) from fans of other teams was a part of football and I would be getting slaughtered they way United are playing but still miss that aspect of it. If we were top we can`t go walking in the pub like the cats got the cream and hammering the pig fans.
 
I can't summon up any interest at the moment, and if the behind closed doors games carry on much longer I think I will stop watching altogether, until the crowds come back of course. Our form isn't helping things of course.

On the plus side, my missus is absolutely delighted :mad:
 
What I find more dispiriting is how the rulemakers have completely destroyed most fans long standing understanding of the rules where even so-called top referees interpret differently. Last night Kane clearly looked to buy a foul off Lallana. He never looked at ther ball, only the man. Lallana looked at the ball, not the man. How can that ever be a penalty? What are the referees doing? Then, Spurs player was fouled but referee deemed the Saints player had touched the ball so no foul. The other week Berge got booked for a clean winning of the ball but his momentum made contact with a player coming in from the other side. This time ref gives a foul and books Berge. To me, that was just bodily contact but not a foul As to offside, don't get me started. It looked like Che Adams had an elbow offside last night. His feet were clearly behind the offside line. Absolute rubbish. Kane and Son clearly dived but ref says nothing. Every weekend we instances like this from a system that was intended to eradicate errors. We can't really elebrate a goal now because it seems they look for ways to disallow them. It's pathetic and soul destroying. The Blades have honest players but it is a terrible indictment of the game that we actually suffer because of it.

Me too. Can't be arsed to watch the others and, to be fair, United struggle to hold my attention for the full 90. Am missing my fortnightly trek from Bristol. UTB
 
My watching habits have changed, and I don't think our form is the reason. Previously I would have watched 3 or 4 of the games available over the weekend. I still watch us when we're on, but even that is becoming an effort. I managed about 30 minutes of Newcastle v Everton and switched it over. Didn't bother with anything else, just can't be arsed for a number of reasons. Rule changes, no crowds, VAR all have an impact to make it now seem like other things are more worthy of the time and effort. VAR was a real problem for me from day 1, a real show of intent in making the sport a TV experience first and foremost, sod the crowds. They now have their wholly for TV experience and it's total shit.
 
Agreed it's a massive loss not going. And nothing beats the roar of the crowd and the sheer unadulterated joy of the ball smashing the back of the net. But also have to counter when Billy rocketed that pen home against Fulham- the release for our family was automatic , loud and fierce.

Rather watch than not watch and a loss still deeply hurts, but I know that makes the wins so much sweeter.

Anyone slagging Chris and Al off on here needs their bumps feeling from where we have come to this is unbelievable- they deserve our support through thick and thin - if we go down so what- nobody and I mean nobody better placed to bring us back..

These two posts have it spot on for me.
 
My interest in the game is way down at the moment the only football I watch on TV is our games but I still can't get excited about that it is so dull and boring, lifeless and sterile. Three minute waits while VAR checks things, hopeless standards of refereeing, diving cheating and girl like screams as they throw themselves to the floor, rule changes and more rule changes when the original change is shown to be a load of cobblers is all turning me off the game, that and the sheer greed of the big six clubs.
Still it is not just football at the moment I loathe going to the shops I can't be arsed with all the messing about with face masks, hand jels and all that shite, not interested in going to the pub or for a meal it is like living life in an open prison, count me out. Not even sure I will go back to the lane when crowds can go back as it will only be small numbers to start with, socially distanced of course one way systems and all that shit, I don't know if I can be bothered with it anymore.

The game I have enjoyed most during all this recently was the PSG v Marseille match where a few players got sent off. Then I remembered why I enjoyed that game, there were still some fans there for it.
