I'm yet to read or hear anything substantiated from anyone or anywhere that backs up the bi monthly posts about Diego being a bad'un or Clough not liking him.
He marched into cloughs office demanding more game time wearing a baseball cap, no pants or trousers or owt , just a baseball cap
Or so I heard...summat like that

Some of the players have asked coaching staff why is Dimaio not playing and training with them this says a lot dose it not
I bet that happens all the time, that's opinions for you. The real question is, which player should make way for him, and based in what?

UTB

Has flo come straight back into the team from a long lay off ??? Yes he has
Is Cuvelier further ahead in his development and played more first team games in his career than Diego? Yes he is. And given his performance vs Saints, he deserved to.

Playing McGinn in attacking midfield roles has been a complete waste of time. Clough will admit that now, as he hasn't figured for weeks.

Dose it? What? That the players should be in charge of selection and training?

Good Pele, it's bad enough the lunatics taking over the asylum on here. We don't want it spreading to Shirecliffe!

Can you explain the encouragement clough has given to Dimaio and khan he gave khan a couple of run outs from the bench last season and Dimaio started 2 games and was man of the match in both yet this season the best they have done is one bench for khan and 2 benches for Dimaio. Dimaio was given his chance last season and grabbed it with both hands then this season dropped with no explanation and it's very rare either of the two train with the first team.
How do you know there has been no explanation to the players.? Are you xpecting NC to run by every decision via the fams ?Dimaio was on the bench yesterday or didn't you notice. ? Khan and Dimago are still kids. They won't rain with the 1St team most days at the moment unless they are going to be in the squad. . Or maybe rhe manager rhinks they havent developped quick enough at the momemt. You will be telling me they are being bullied next

Of course they do . Which players are these then as they are surely putting there positions in the team at risk. I assume the person who has told yu this has also told you the reply. You tell me the reply and I will check your info with a member of the firsT team that I am meeting tomorrow.

Agreed, but let's not overstate the case. Clough hasn't rated him from day one (correctly in my view) and he's been used very sparingly indeed. In fact, I'm going to launch a "McGinn hasn't had a fair chance" campaign.

On the general issue, all unsuccessful players were young once: thousands of them. Have they all had a raw deal?

Well didn't I get shot down! The boy has ability and the current manager appears to hold grudges in my opinion. Some youngsters have been backed and some haven't. That's his choice, he's the manager.5 And that is all it is, my opinion for all it's worth which is nothing! Diego will end up playing at the level his ability, work rate and attitude deserves. Just like the rest of them

Good of you to summarise your post in your first sentence. Had I known that it was so accurate, it would have saved me reading the rest of the nonsense.

Here is the harsh truth. Whitehouse, McFadzean and Ironside have failed to make it. They are not going to have glittering careers elsewhere. Diego, if he goes the same way, will reflect that he ought to have listened a little more to NC and a little less to people like you, who do the lad no favours at all.

Players get every chance on the training pitch and in Under-21 games. If they shine, they get a chance. At the risk of repeating myself, we are a professional football club, not the fucking X Factor.
dead right pinchy some fans are blind to what the professional game is all about.any manager worth his salt rewards young
players who have got potential and put the effort in.Iwould love to see diego come through but is a long way away at present.
Mcnuts is a good example of what clough demands from his strikers,he is a natural poacher and showed this from the off
but clough has been wanting more from him and he works his socks off now twice the player he was in august with more
to come.He could become a new keith edwards but with one extra quality( work ethick for the team) thanks to cloughy
asking him for more which he found hard to give at the start, but the penny has dropped thanks to cloughy withdrawing him
from a regular starting roll he will play far more games in 2nd half of season we could have a real striker on our hands here
a natural finisher but has to maintain his work ethick to keep his place.

You make a very good point, mate. Different players have to be treated in different ways. I agree that Sparky is progressing splendidly under NC, yet many will have it that he is destroying him. If so, he is bearing up very well under the strain such that he is playing the best football of his life.

Perhaps he has a bit of character and is happy for a manager, who knows a bit about playing up front, to guide him? A lesson for others?

Did someone get book of football clichés for xmas ?

We have a strange fan base at times.

We have a kid in Diego, who looks very talented from what iv'e seen,he's been here since he was 7 years old and has stayed with us all the way through with coaches bringing him through the ranks at our club, yet we have people bringing him down saying he's only played here,he's only done this,he's a right mardy arse, this and that. It's embarassing at times, give the lad a chance before you say he's a Slew or whatever other failure we've had.

Clough has been here for one year, just because he doesn't play him doesn't mean he's shite.Clough hasn't brought Diego through the ranks nor has he been here aslong as Diego or any of the other youngsters for that matter so i can't understand where all this trust comes from that what Clough is doing for Diego is for the best for our club.

We surely have to show some loyalty to our youngsters who have been here a lot longer than Clough has,so lets just see what happens before we start bringing the young lad down,he went to York and wanted to stay there, that should say a lot about the lads attitude if you ask me.Billy big bollocks in league 2,don't make me laugh!

I believe it's personal with Diego and the current manager. Let's not forget the current manager has form for that sort of thing. Diego has that something different and deserved a decent chance to showcase it. He'll leave and flourish elsewhere. I feel for some of the academy coaches who have put the time and effort into the lad only for the current manager to stunt his progress.

Would these be the same academy coaches that have brought the best out of Reedy, and the other young 'uns that have been given their chance?
Please tell us what has happened regarding the big bids that were supposed to be coming in for Diego.

I would suggest if anyone is stunting Diego's progress it is the lad himself.

Sorry, I will back Mr Clough's judgement of football ability, over yours 24/7.

I can see it now. The first team break off in training to talk with the manager. One of them is so concerned about poor Dimaio's ,alleged demotion that he gets down on his knees, and asks Clough to give Dimaio his slot in the team Greater love hath no first teamer, than to offer his shirt to another.

And that is up to you. It's my opinion that is all and is worth nothing. Just as much as your opinion and everyone else's. You back the current manager, I don't at this stage. If he takes us up my opinion will change no doubt. Opinions, everyone's entitled to one and it's a big part of being a football fan

It would appear opinions are a big
part in management too as young Dimaio was being raved about last season only to fall down the pecking order this season. That wasn't because any of us decided it. The current managers opinion and decisions decided it. That's football

I think most people on this thread have responded to the comments on the OP, very few of us (if any) on here know the attitude of Diego, but the club clearly want to keep him as they've opened new contract talks with him (it was on the OS before xmas)

Cloughs handling of players like Reed, Kennedy and McNulty in my opinion seems to work. He certainly favours giving them a taste of first team, then giving them a spell out of the team, perhaps to see how they handle it and fight for their place.

With McNulty on Sunday he went mad at him for kicking the ball away and getting booked. Some would say give him a break, others would say he's right to berate him. Clough speaks a lot about discipline and I'd imagine this is something he drills the players on a lot

Edit: Sorry posted too soon

I heard the interview with McNults after the game, he spoke very well about fighting for his place, didn't expect to be playing every week. He genuinely seems grateful for the opportunity and now I think this reflects in his game. If he shows a professional attitude and ability he will get his chance, he needs patience and not an agent in his ear.

I think NC is playing it right and protecting a few of the younger lads. We've all heard the collective sighs around the ground when a player misses a pass or shoots when he should have passed the ball, as a youngster hearing a crowd as large as ours like that could easily damage confidence.

He sounds like he thinks he's better than he is. No time for someone like that

listen pal you have know idea of the things I know and the people I know ant the club and as for not noticing Dimaio being on the bench on Sunday that was the only reason I went ;-)

Sounds to me like a kid who has unfortunately started to believe the hype on message boards. Football is littered with players like Diego who have the talent but have neither the patience or application to prove they are good enough to mix it with the bigger boys. Usually they end up at Mansfield and then driving a van by the time they are 24.

Kicking it into the sack at York 1 in 2 is great, but it isn't Roy Race standard now is it? Said all along if he was half as good as he thinks he is then he would walk into our first team. Lets be honest, no manager is going to pass up their best player and freeze him out when he has limited funds to go find someone else.

Hope I'm wrong and he turns good but I increasingly doubt it.

Trouble is, you also don't know who everyone on this forum knows at the club ;-)
