Come on everyone didzy deserves a massive thank you for everything he’s given us blades over the last few years I just wish we’d have got him 10 years ago my best memory was Hull away bank holiday didzy smashed it that day I dressed up as him at Stoke premier league party n he came over n gave me he shirt. I hope he gets the send off he deserves Sufc legend

Another quality performance and goal to get Derby into 3rd round of the cup.
Would it have been worth giving him another 12 month contract especially with our injury crisis.

Yeah loved Didsy. Not sure nobody wanted him though?
Most saw it as a low risk transfer with a lot of potential upside. Did very well in his trial.

Didn't we sign/unveil Didz the same day as Marv Johnson? I clearly remember being happy with Neymarv and underwhelmed with Didzy 😆 Absolute class act 💪

There's some on here with crystal balls ;-)

on trial according to the star

Worth a punt as he won’t cost owt but taking up wages still

Except he is very injury prone and on the wrong side of 30.

Although I guess this is the market we are shopping in.

An improvement on Donaldson and that’s about it. At least it is moving in the right direction, albeit a very small step.

Before anybody writes him off it should be remembered that he is actually a decent player, more than decent actually. Yes he has had his injuries but (partly for that reason) he won't cost a fortune and he does bring several years of championship experience.
On the excitement scale, for me, he's on a par with Stearman. Not a world beater but he knows the league inside out and will run through walls.

He'll do well in the right circumstances - mainly if he's fit, with a fresh start somewhere in a decent setup.

Seems to be a quality player (when rarely injury free) but his career has been plagued with injuries. If we do sign him up and he stays injury free he could be a very decent player for us under Wilder who is good at getting players careers back on track but with his injury record that seems unlikely.

Be happy with this one. Good, experienced championship footballer who has undoubted quality when fit. If we can get him in on a reasonable wage, then I'd be all for him. If we can get 20 games out of him then he will most certainly add to our squad.

We're becoming a club of Antique Striker Collectors.

Quality signing as a backup striker. Far better than Donaldson.

From my point of view, I think..."Why not?" he won't cost us much and if he can be somewhere near to fit then we've got a useful player there to supplement the squad. But let's also be very clear about something else as well...this is a strong indication of what level United are shopping at. You guys who were coming on here recently and wondering in which sweet shop we were going to spend the Brooks £12M - is it sinking it with you yet? There's no £12M to spend - and we are looking at what we can get from "the penny tray".

Like my school report said....."Could do better".

We were linked to Martyn Waghorn for millions then decided to go for a trialist. People kicked off. Then he scored against Inter Milan and people have him a chance. An inspired signing!

Yeah, he was injury ridden at his previous clubs. My main concern at the time was his injury record. Which was backed up by fans at his previous clubs. Also, keep in mind we signed Didzy when he had just been relegated with Ipswich.

So its understandable that we had concerns about signing him. It was a sign of the market we were shopping in that the time but it was a free transfer that paid off in spades. I am happy to see him doing well at Derby, he goes down as a Blades legend.

Didzy never got relegated with Ipswich.

Ipswich were relegated the season we fetched him in not the previous year

A friend from the Ipshit area said the story was Didzy didn’t like all the travelling from his home in Notts down to Ipshit - much easier travelling to Sheffield. Time lost for recuperation and training and conditioning adds up over the years.

Sitting still whilst commuting for hours on end is incredibly bad for posture and injury prevention.

If he never wanted to fully up sticks to Ipswich you have to wonder why he didn’t seek a move earlier.

Just want to state, contrary to the OP, I was buzzing with the Didzy signing. He was class for Ipswich

Another more important question might be 'why live in Notts?' 😄

I was told several years ago by someone around director level at Sheff Utd that,
never mentioned it at the time whilst Wilder and McGoldrick were at the club but they’ve both now left, so no harm done.

McGoldrick was desperate to return to the Nottingham area near his family, so his agent tried to set up a trial at Sheff Utd.
Chris Wilder had zero interest in McGoldrick and refused. Anyhow Wilder was eventually persuaded to just give him a short trial, nothing to lose.
Within a few days Wilder saw his high quality, still had concerns about injuries but agreed to offer him a contract.
So it wasn’t Wilder or the scouting team that brought in McGoldrick, it was just a piece of good luck where the players agent contacted us.

He no doubt wanted to be nearer home as do all players towards the end of their career but it was Mick McCarthy who phoned Wilder and told him how good Didzy was and asked him to give him a trial. So it’s big Barnsley Mick we have to thank for Didzy.

As above, but the agent was a friend of Bettis, The agent was putting pressure on his mate Bettis to get Wilder to at least give him a trial, the rest is history:)

Wilder himself said in an interview not long after giving him a deal that he got a phone call from Mick McCarthy asking him to give Didzy a trial, McCarthy bigged him up saying he’s more than good enough so Wilder said ok I’ll have him in for a week and rest is history.

Maybe Wilder rang him though so there could be a bit of truth in both story’s

McCarthy said that Wilder rang him asking for his opinion.

I remember Wilders interview saying McCarthy had rang him bigging Didzy up and telling him to sign him, clearly it was Wilder saying he spoke on the phone to him, memory playing tricks on me there. Happy to be proved wrong 👍

Not trying to prove you wrong, just providing McCarthy’s recollection of it 🙂

The reaction to his open goal miss against Brighton was incredible. He was properly loved, that's for sure.
