Did Wilson win the psychological battle...

Surely it's common practice to try and disrupt home advantage by making teams kick towards the "wrong" end? If our tactical master plan relies on winning the toss then we're fecked!
Barnsley scored - we didn't (despite dominating large parts of the game). No tactical genius on Wilson's part.

Been doing some working out this morning
1970-71 (21 league & 1 cup game) we attacked the Kop 16 times in the 1st half and 6 times towards BL end (QPR,Bolton,Charlton, Blackburn, Norwich and Watford). Am not saying that Colquhoun won the toss only 6 times at the most if he was intending to choose attacking the BL End in the 1st half if he won the toss as I do not remember if we took the kick off for most of the matches!

1971-72 (21 league & 4 cup games) we attacked the Kop 17 times in the 1st half and 8 times towards BL end (Liverpool, Coventry, Wolves, Cardiff, Man C, Everton, Newcastle and Palace)

1972-73 (21 league & 3 cup games) we attacked the Kop 15 times in the 1st half and 5 times towards BL end (Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham, Liverpool and Man C) but cannot remember which half in 4 games (Charlton LC Cup 1st match, WBA, Birmingham (I was in bed with flu) and Palace)

1973-74 to 1978-79 were my boarding school years so this will be harder for me to recollect so I will check the complete records but I think in 1974-75 we attacked the BL End first more times than not
Continuing...

1973-74 (21 league games) we attacked the Kop in the 1st half 10 times and 6 times towards the BL end (Arsenal,Newcastle,Derby, Southampton, Chelsea and QPR) but didnt go to the Birmingham, Everton, Wolves and Ipswich games due to being at school (I didnt go to the Arsenal game too but have always known we attacked the BL end first due to the photos of the goals), I went to the Coventry game but cant remember which direction we played in the 1st half

1974-75 (21 league & 4 cup games) we attacked the Kop end in the 1st half 6 times (Derby, Birmingham, Spurs, Arsenal, Bristol City and Man City) and 12 times towards the BL end but didnt go to the League Cup games and Newcastle, Boro, Burnley and Luton league games

to be continued...

3 of my favourite ever home victories were kicking towards the kop first half. Leeds, Lverpool and Wendy all in the triple assault season.

Not convinced it makes that much difference.
And who could forget Blades v Wendy on 17/11/91? Dane's first half goal in front of the Kop followed by Deano slotting it through Chris Woods' legs right in front of our visitors from across the city?

No i don't think he did win the psychological battle,i just think Clough loses his own battles sometimes if i'm brutally honest.

He seems to be in a constant battle with himself as to whether he wants to be successful

Carrying on..

1975-76 (21 league matches) Kop 3 times (Derby, Man U, Ipswich) BL 9 times but didnt go to Arsenal,Burnley, Norwich, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton, Villa, QPR and Brum

1976-77 (21 league and 1 cup match) Kop 5 times (Carlisle, Bristol R, Luton, Charlton, Oldham) and BL 7 times (Hereford, Burnley, Fulham, Orient, Bolton, Saints and Blackpool) but didnt go to the other 10

Going to bed now!

No, they just won a game of football that's all.
It was nothing to do with which way we were kicking and when we play at their bombsite later in the season it wont have owt to do with it either.
The reason we lost was because of bad finishing as usual.
The reason they won was down to a shitload of luck and one chance going in.

Our best goals are scored at the Lane end though
Brown v Pigs
Jags v Dirties
Reece v Brum
Currie v bindippers
Nade v cheating cockney bastards.
Can't argue with the list but , cheating cockney bastards could be a number of clubs. If it wasn't for the landmark nadsack wonder goal people could get confused !

No No and thrice no. We are professionals so it shouldn't matter which end we play form. There is no doubt the crowd do have an effect, but it s minor compared to the effect the manager and the team players have. We lost because we don't have a good finisher up top. Things might have been different if Higdon had been fit or if we could have purchased that elusive 20 goal a season man. Another day it might have been different. We just had a bad hair day, shit happens.

Great goals all (well Nade's was alright but I'd got Taylor vs Forest as better at that end). But I'll see you them and raise you:

Dellas vs Pompey
Reece vs Sunderland
Currie (a quality goal etc. etc. )
Deane vs Grobbelar
Pesky vs Forest

all at the Kop end.

I think you might be right Silent.

Tend not to count Woody's goals as the spectacular were just par for the course, almost felt let down if he hadn't thundered a couple in.

I'll give you the one against Liverpool when TC put it on his toe from about 60 yards away and the last one (I think) of his four against Ipswich as top Lane Enders for the great man.
