Did we boycott Praise or Grumble?

The concept of a boycott for Football Heaven is a strange one. By that token you could also say that I currently boycott treading in dog turds.

That's a very striking analogy because I am not too sure which one feels more wretched. Having stepped in a dog turd or listenting to a weekday episode of FH on RS? I guess one is less squidgy.

In some ways it is our own fault (and that of the pork) because we aren't in the Premiership. If we were there would be enough to fill the airwaves without listening the the inane ramblings of our own idiots like Brian the Blade intertwined with the grade Z journos on BBC Sheffield. I don't think they are biased I just think they are rubbish. Add to that there is little to no news on a daily basis to fill the show and guess what, you get the special class making prank calls to a radio show on a daily basis. Worst thing is, because there is no one else with a brain listening they get on every day.

Bob Jackson must be spinning in his grave.

Oh and I was disappointed to see an entire thread relating to Boycotts without a picture of Geoff.

Caught the end of the show last night and the only Blades related comment I heard was someone texting/emailing (anonymously - so it could be a wind up anyway) that RS is biased, which prompted the usual sarcasm from the presenter stating that they are so pro Weds that they are providing a commentary to the Blades game this evening (not that such an act confirms bias one way or the other) and then some texts from fans of other clubs para phrasing the same.

I don't actually think they are biased. Not very good, I'll agree with but not necessarily biased.
The fact is that South Yorkshire football is so poor compared to almost every other region when measured against the size of clubs in the region and their potential that you will get crap spouted due to the ineptitude of the teams we support. Comparing one turd with another is a pretty pointless exercise.

In fact you could extrapolate that to all Yorkshire teams - nothing to write home about any of 'em.
Five star shit every one of them. They can keep on polishing but a turd is still a turd no matter how shiny it gets.

I stopped listening last season for a number of reasons already covered by others. The presenters are poor (Paul Walker loves himself doesn't he?), there isn't enough material for an hour long slot and there is a definate but unacknowledged bias to the pigs.
If you want post match analysis it is far more pleasant in one of the pubs around BDTBL. If you want better entertainment between 6 and 7 midweek then try putting your testicles in a drawer and continually slamming the drawer shut.

Tried it but the Mrs made me wash all the cuttlery, again

Doesn't help to numb the pain of third division bobbar and a diminishing light at the end of the tunnel, which turns out to be just a metal beer bottle lid, discarded on a bend, reflecting the fading wavelengths of folorn hope.
:tumbleweed:

Rarely do any Blades get on P&G apart from Brian.

I think RS have done the boycotting for us really.

I have not boycotted P&G because of any bias, I've merely stopped listening to it in the house because it's rubbish. I put it on for the short drive home, and then it's off.

I've no problem if they are biased in favour of one club, considering that the local sides are in different divisions, although I'd be surprised if they actually were biased at all, but my gripe with it is that it's crap. They give boring callers far too much time, and also they pander to buffoons like Brian The Blade and that pillock who likes to scream down the phone at the end of the call. Far too much waffle without offering any insight.

They'd perhaps be better off employing proper fans of the local clubs. Get a couple from each side that they cover, and rotate them. At least if the blokes taking your calls have a bias then we'd know where they stand. Either that or get someone with more personality than a wet flannel, unlike the current bores who host it.

**** me, just listened for 5 mins on the way back from the gym. Was going along well with a good conversation about money worries and Monty and Cresswell not being on the bench... why could this be etc; then within seconds the lad at Hillsborough starts saying how amazing it was how wednesday and united have swopped fortunes and suddenly they are talking about a wednesday promotion push. Switch off, rather listen to Durham and Gough and that's saying something

Eff me; I turn onto Radio Five and they're talking about the pigs returning to their former glories. Pricks.

"Two big clubs" Didn't he get the memo? Now they're talking about how one of the promoted teams goes up to the Premier League after promotion.

Making me sick now.

Craig Burley did just say "The stadium is stuck in a time warp." Good man.

"Bob Jackson must be spinning in his grave"

A metaphorical spin I assume? Robert is still alive and kicking as far as I'm aware...

It actually died when Paul Walker got involved ,he is now so far up his own arse he thinks hes the new Chris Evans in a morning and John Motson on Saturday nights ,the guy is a total moron ,oh no thats what he thinks we are right ?
quite right sitwell, otherwise known as a talentless prick !

Tomorrows football heaven will be unbearable I just noticed the self proclaimed massive are 2nd in the table ffs, they are already planning to have a beam back at Owlerton and Oakwell as the sty just isn't big enough for the expected 100,000 wanting to see the next home game.

Not a boycott as such, but I had it on in the car on the way home from work tonight and was forced to turn off as a wind up from a pig fan was dredged up from Twitter...

It wasn't so much the poor attempt at claiming superiority over Blades fans, but the "comedy" siren they appear to have begun playing to highlight the usage of the work "massive".

Utter dross.

My radio in the kitchen doesn't get turned off 6Music.

I'd rather get depressed by The Smiths than despair at listening to the imbeciles that natural selection should have been allowed to do away with a long time ago... and that's just the presenters.

I have three ideas for Radio Sheffield:

1) Bin praise or grumble totally

2) Have one correspondant for each local club, that way no reporter can be accused of bias and everyone knows where they stand.

3) Have a fan from each club on P&G/Football Heaven. In studio debate, with maybe the odd caller. Not a show full of the same old pissed up idiots they get now!

I've always thought there was bias towards the pigs, but that's a moot point and we could argue for ever.

What I think has happened is that RS - exactly like the Star - has been overtaken by events regarding people's use of media. However, they're both going down without a fight as they stick with their 'tried and tested', but oh-so-outdated methods.

The older generation may be interested in local non-events, they're the type of people who probably sit there asking 'as t'Staaar cooom yet?'. The same people listen to Rony Robinson and think he's good.

There's simply not enough of real interest happening locally to justify this saturation of local media. Witness Look North's desperate attempts to cover anything with the remotest link to 'the area'. That fucking torch is a case in point. How many months have they been going on about it? Throw in useless journos, inaccuracies and pompous twats like Toby Foster who, like his audience, belong in a Working Man's Club and the death knell has sounded for 'local' media.

Apart from self-pleasurers and window-lickers like Brian and that Wendy big gob Ricardo, you won't be missed.

Being exiled for a number of years, I've not consistently listened since the days of Bob Jackson and his military marches.

Seems to me that back then, local radio appeared to acknowledge it's place a bit more. Local stuff, by local people, for local people. Nothing else, nothing flash and nothing pseudo-national stations. All the current bunch seem to view every broadcast as an audition piece.

O, and bias is nothing new as far as the local media is concerned, remember the 'Save our Sows' campaign when they looked like dropping into the old 3rd division (which they did)? We fell right to the bottom and not so much as a petition never mind campaign.

I just heard Rob Staton being totally smacked about by KMc for not knowing his facts:

Staton asked if the West Ham "£10M" (much less according to KMc) would be invested in the players and was very firmly put in his place for not knowing our financial situation.

Why does RD emply these empty-headed "journalists", I'd like to see them (or The Star) properly investigate this Nigerian proposal (as they failed to do with Sheard, Cloud 9, etc.), I've seen more journalistic skills on here from 5 mins of reseatch than they will ever do.

Because any hard-hitting questions will see them barred from the Lane / Sty etc, and will limit their already sparse output. As mentioned by Kenilworth, I think Local radio stations are shitting themselves about the rise of the Internet / social media in how people get their news. Football is certainly 1 thing that keeps people listening; hence filling all week with FH. If they didn't have that I dread to think what their output would consist of.

It is time for Radio Sheffield to be closed I think. It has passed its sell by date, having being going since 1967. The Internet and Social Media sites have rendered these stations irrelevant.

Social media is all very well but you can’t listen to Twitter while you’re driving home from the match.
I’d rather listen to people talking crap about Sheffield United on Radio Sheffield than be forced to hear people talking crap about Manchester United on Radio 5 Live or Talksport.
Who is going to provide the commentaries if local radio dies a death?
Who is going to get post-match interviews, so you can hear the manager’s thoughts from the horses mouth?
I even find the phone-ins quite entertaining in a pantomime “shouting at the radio” type of way, although “Brian the Blade” and his ilk should be blacklisted.
