Did the wrong Sheffield club go up?

But would it? The higher up the leagues you go, the higher the cost of succeeding becomes. There's always another dream to chase.

What we need to do is be financially sound in whatever division we're in and establish a club-wide footballing culture to sustain us. With that should come the capacity to keep our young players long enough for them to succeed with us, not someone else.

Trouble is, McCabe is owed so much money that unless he writes it off, we'll forever be running to stand still.

Of course it would not be guaranteed, but the likelihood is yes. We would be getting £3-4m extra a year, but still having to work within the FFP. I agree about the philosophy of footballing culture and sustainability, but think it is madness to say that extra income would not help out. Relegation from the Championship cost us big time. Getting back there and taking a more sensible approach is needed.

Exactly! Pretty much how we were run for several seasons before getting into the premier league.

I can't remember what our wage bill was during the memorable 2002-3 season, but I don't think I'm far wrong if I say it was half what our current wage bill is. We were one of the lowest spenders (or perhaps that should read one of the most responsible spenders) in our division and yet reached a play off final and two cup semi finals, comfortably beating several premier league sides along the way, and we were playing some great football that was a joy to watch.

All of which shows something that most of us probably realise - it's often not how much you spend, but how you spend it that counts.

Think we were streets ahead of the other promoted teams last season - Charlton did well grinding out the 1-0s, Huddersfield seemed to draw alot (bit similar to us this season) and the pigs sporned it with late winners or equalisers ie alot of close games which would suggest while better than other teams in the division they weren't that much better. In contrast we battered teams most weeks.

In the run in while the pigs had the early start advantage nearly every week we answered it by giving the opposition a good hiding each time until Evans got sent down. Our football at times last season was magnificant, while the pigs were just a set of above average tryers.

I think a combination of last season's team and this season's (add in Hill, Kitson, Long and Miller to Maguire, Lowton, McDonald, Quinn and Willo) would have more than held it's own in the Championship. As for us being a 'one' man team, Huddersfield have done well without Rhodes and while McDonald made the team tick last season, without the good players around this time around he hasn't looked half the player.

Get promotion this time around, pass the pigs in the opposite direction and we can forget all about season 11-12.

I dont see how luck can come into it? They capitalised on the chances they were given & we didnt. Us imploding against Oldham & not getting any points from MK Dons sealed our fate.

Is it not lucky to Get battered beyond all recognition by a team that his the bar twice but win? And that's just the Brentford game the jammy ...

One of which was from 3 yards, immediately before getting hit on the break and conceding as a result...

Of course the wrong team went up. What a silly question!

Sheffield Wednesday should always be in a relegation fight.
The play in blue and white - enough to give you a permanent migraine .
Their fans are totally arrogant and suffer from that horrendous illness Positively Ingrained Grunters Syndrone which affects people who regularly assemble in Sheffield 6.

Luckily those who have Balanced Life Attribution Developed Entertainmemt Skills have no such affliction. :)

Next!

Im sure we didnt play well in every match that we won?

True but I listened to that game on RS (expecting us to go up), and a Wendy mate who was there in person said it was as freakish a game as it sounded. Which can happen, but it was at a pivotal time in amongst an incredible run of results and bizarre legal matters.

Basically, I doubt I'll ever see the like again.

I think we'd be getting dry bummed in the Championship. It's the most competitive league around. There are under performing teams who I'd fear us meeting. Brum in the cup made us look like non leaguers and they were a team in disarray. Teams like Watford have a playing squad we can only dream of. If we hide in this league until FFP takes out 15 of the mis managed championship teams we might stand a chance.

The championship doesn't have a salary cap and since Financial Fair Play was brought in primarily to fix problems at the top end of the game, the sanctions don't apply at championship level. (Not at the moment anyway).
