They only want to sign him because the extra revenue his name generates per letter on the back of a shirt.

do you reckon they have seen enough in him to want to sign him ?

He appears to have to skill but is not the quickest.Don't watch any Italian football so I don't know if pace is key in their league but at the moment,I haven't seen anything to suggest he is a Premier League player. I hope he goes back to York until the New Year, scores a hat full of goals then comes back to us and proves me wrong.

Like man u, man City, arsenal, Liverpool etc were all going to sign him....

You make a move for Diego sound like the Leeds are interested in Monty situation.

I think Diego is more likely to earn a move to a decent club given his age and raw talent.

do we have an option to extend his contract by a year. I can't believe we would let his contract run down like this?

what raw talent is that ? Not seen it in the 1st team games I have seen him play.Genuine question. What makes him so special ?

We could well have offered him a contract, but of course you can't make him sign it.

There always seems to be plenty of potential, but it's time it kicked on, and it's not obvious that we should break the bank for him.

UTB

Hes hardly had a chance in first team games hes only young hes obviously got some talent as he would not have played for
Italy U21s or walked into a struggling York side and scored 3 in 4 games. Nobody says hes 'special' but IMHO we should not allow him to walk away

Probably run his contract down Sheff because they've probably offered him one already, or at least hinted at one, and he's told them bollox. Imo.

If he leaves then it will either be a free or not for much (for a Premier League) team.

Nothing much to lose for any team to take a punt.

Ah it's OK then we will just tell Diego to piss off because he has only played a few games for us.

We don't need promising youngsters like that at our club anyway.

DIEGO WATCH:

'68: Comes on for Ryan Flynn to play up front
'79: Gets a pass into the box. Superb first touch, shows strength in holding off a big centre half and pace in getting past him, but then goes to ground. Hard to see whether he was fouled, fell or took a dive. Penalty not given.
'80: Shows strength and good touch as he receives a pass into the box, holds off his marker and passes wide to Harris in a crossing position.
'84: Runs in behind the defence, and gets the ball from Murphy. Shoots from the edge of the box, just wide. Good finish from a difficult angle.
'86: Shows a good touch again as he links play
'90: Again proves that he's rapid, gets the ball on the left, his marker can only get a slight touch with his tackle, but is helped out by a teammate who Diego chases down to win a throw in.

I think he looks a fantastic talent and I will be surprised if he doesn't play top flight football within two or three years. Can't understand what makes people doubt his quality.

After his first touch he had 11 minutes to become a hero, too late once again Mr Clough.

I've seen Diego too Bergen, and it's clear that the boy has enough quality to at least play at this level and probably much higher.

Give him a run of games. If he hasn't done it by Christmas then get someone in instead. Not like we would be dropping someone who is banging the goals in right left and centre is it?

What gets me is that some people are quick to question the ability of our young uns,yet the so called top pro's we've had and still do have at the club, some who are not very good to say the least, get defended left right and centre because the manager picks them and they are never wrong are they:rolleyes:

Give the lad a chance to prove himself, otherwise he will certainly leave. Why would he stay if he isn't playing?

We had all this with HM at the start of the season, the only difference been HM would have been starting and he still left,Diego isn't even starting!

The point is, if the manager thinks he is good enough he will play. If he is not, he will be on his way. You could ask that any of the U21's are given a chance in the 1st team to see if they are good enough but it doesn't work like that. Hopefully DG will develop at York as force his way into the team if he is good enough.

Has anyone really questioned his ability or are fans just giving an opinion on what they have seen at 1st team level so far ? There is questioning about all the hype surrounding the lad and whether it is justified. The only person who can judge this(rightly or wrongly) is the manager.

Why would we keep him if he isn't good enough ?

So when the manager signs four strikers and plays without one every week is that because he doesnt think they are good enough ?
is ability the only criteria to being in the first eleven ?

Or maybe your simplistic overview of managing a football team is formed from sitting in front of a pc monitor clicking a mouse for hours on end until you have taken forest green to champions league success ?

Looks like the answer is NC doesn't think Porter and the kid are good enough as the Stir is reporting United back in for O'Grady for this w/e's game.

LOL. Don't have any football management games so never played one so the experience of managing Forest Green on a computer is something you will have to tell me about.

But in simple terms, ability too fulfil a role in a team in a system that the manager wants to play has to be the main criteria in any team selection(followed by fitness and form). Isn't that obvious ? The only way you can judge this is in training and matches (unless you can tell me otherwise ?)

NC has signed Porter, McNulty and Higdon and for whatever reason, he hasn't deemed them deserving of a regular place however I think this is more of an issue with Higdon rather than McNulty as I think MM will develop into what we need as opposed to Hidgon who should be doing the business now (and maybe still will).

Another week of wondering if a striker will sign then by Friday nothing will have happened. Like the last few weeks.
