Devante Cole

Wells scored ten goals in Huddersfield's promotion season and just one in his last 18 games. Is he a bit inconsistent? He's been injured this season and is just returning to fitness. Having paid £5m for him I think Burnley will give him a chance soon.

Cole seems more like a Wilder type signing, but I agree we should also consider other options. We had a trialist striker playing for our U23 team the other day, but he would be more likely to be a development player I think.

I had no idea he'd been injured, to be honest. £5m seemed cheap and with Burnley also picking up Chris Wood for a more sizeable fee I just assumed he was lower down in the pecking order.

These things are never as easy as some like to think

The last window proved that

The signings that should've happened on TDD that didn't

Then there's endless pursuit of Leonard and the chase for Blackburn's Lenihan

Fleetwood ended up accepting 200k plus add ons didn't they?

He's now only got 6 months left on his contract.

Who bigger, better and richer than us will want him?

If we really want him of course we'll get him.

Perhaps the player himself may think he has more chance of the first team at the Den than at the Lane

Who the fk knows Rick, but I stand by what I say. I don't believe it's as straightforward as you make out;. It rarely is

Just smaller and quicker, we will find out about scoring ability later.

Can't someone go on Football Manager and find out about it now? There's a lovely set of stats on the Ryan Leonard thread which shows how fast he can run around a pentagon, versus Fleck, Coutts, or Carruthers. That's the kind of thing we need on this thread. Only...could we have a rhombus or a trapezium? I just like the shape of them better than pentagons.

If anyone is struggling to draw it, you're welcome to borrow my Spirograph.

No he hasnt Clarke is nowhere near the player Deane was

Deane is the best centre forward we've had but to say Clarke is no where near, I think is harsh in the form Clarke is now as top goal scorer in the league. Ok, its the Championship but the style of the goals scored is also what's so impressive. Clarke's finishing is as good as anyone I've seen play for United in my time - 1989 onward.

Clarke is a decent goalscorer in L1, hes having a good run of form at the moment but hes not scored goals with much consistency in the top 2 divisions like Deane did and to compare him with Deane is frankly stupid

Cole looks like someone who could develop much like the gangly awkward teen we signed from doncaster

In fact he reminded me of old twinkletoes when he scored against us for Barnsley the other year

His current form is as good as Deane was at this level. Football standards have definitely risen also from the 80's and 90's. Deane was class, don't get me wrong, but Leon is the best forward in the league right now and that's to be applauded.

Clarke shouldnt be in any way shape or form be compared with Brian Deane
Deane was prolific in the top 2 divisions over a number of seasons. Clarke has not been. Deane was more than just a goalscorer he created goals for other players. Clarke is having a good run of form he may finish up being our top scorer this season but hes nowhere near as good as Deane and Deano never wore gloves end of argument

People are comparing division 2 Clarke to division 2 Deane

Not Leon Clarke career to Brian Deane career

I don’t know what the ‘never wore gloves’ argument is intended to illustrate. If it’s some sort of machismo crap you might reach a certain flaw in your argument, but we don’t go there, do we?
