Alrite Gents,

A few weeks back, during the International Break, I was going to make a spontaneous trip to a League one or Two match. I was going to come up to Bramall Lane, but didn't bother in the end. But I've got plans to come next time if you have a Saturday game. It's cheap on the train from Derby and not far.

So where is best for a neutral to sit at your place?

Thanks.

The Westfield Corner - on Bramall Lane. It's got a great view and isn't exactly ragingly partisan (or busy for that matter).

PS - Hope you know that last year's highest scorers in the Football League have since sold all their attacking talent? :)

Rutland Arms is pretty good and it quietens down a treat just about 3pm. You can enjoy a pie and a pint. No football to ruin your day either.

Well I like the look of that Blackman you've signed. I have noticed a lack of goals for the Blades, but wins are wins eh? :) Thanks for the tip, I've been watching closely at yourselves since your relegation. A similar club to ourselves, who's neighbours are the more arrogant and deluded ones.

A few answers so thanks chaps, on a side note, how are you finding League One? Is it a poor league? Are the fans more passionate? Are you confident of promotion? You seem to be a solid team, that looks hard to beat and can grind out results. I noticed you had a good result at Preston the other day, which can be hard place to go.

Hi Josh. Poor doesn't begin to describe Division 3. The gulf between Div. 3 and the Championship is about the same as between the Championship and the PL.

Having said that no games are easy because, after all, you get into this level for a reason - you're poor yourself and have flogged anybody with any talent.

Are the fans more passionate? Well, our crowds have stood up well but can't really be described as passionate because we've had the shit kicked out of us over the years and the football at the moment is tedious. Can't say the away fans are passionate, either, because a few hundred don't generate passion. And that's why we need to get back to our natural level - the Championship. There you'll get away fans in their thousands - Derby, Forest, Leeds etc. This brings revenue and a chance to improve. Just one example. Just over a week ago, the pigs had Leeds at home on a Friday night - 28k including 6k + Leeds fans. Ten days later we had Pompey on a Monday night. A very respectable near-19k including 300 Pompey fans. At a stroke, the pigs had their season average boosted by around 2k and can claim they are truly Massive...

I mean it when I say the Championship is our 'natural' level and that goes for a number of the 'bigger' clubs, including yourselves, Coventry, Birmingham, Wednesday etc. Sure it's nice to dream of the PL but it's a den of thieves and corruption - in 2006/7 we were fiddled from the first game to the last (and several times in between). We got 38 points and they still conspired to send us down. Can't imagine you enjoyed your 'season in the sun'?

You say we 'seem to be a solid team'. Well, results so far would suggest that, but it's horribly fragile and it's in a Blades fans' DNA to fear the worst - it usually comes to pass.

Enjoy your trip!

Don't sit on the Kop..

It's full of idiots.

I sat on the South Stand for about 5 or 6 years then moved back to the Kop because its the cheapest seat in the ground. It's cheap for a reason. Westfield Corner would be your best bet. Good view and no nobheads

I'd have to agree Matt. Good view and a comfortable atmosphere.
Enjoy your trip Josh.

A man after mi own heart

Btw, bring a good book with you. Some of our "performances" do leave a little to be desired. But as you say, a win's a win! :)

I think thats harsh, in my experience Alfreton Town fans are fairly well grounded...

I went to a Forest game the other week and was surprised to discover they sing about how much they hate Derby, Leicester and err... Sheffield United.

Why would they give a monkey's chuff about us? Is it just because we make the lyrics scan? :)

I have no idea why they sing that. Always wondered it myself. So from most people's thoughts, ill go with the Westfield corner. What is the food like at your place? Anyone know when the next International week is?

Its not that cheap either Matt.

Forest for some reason don't like us. Is it to do with us relegating them on Brian Clough's last match in charge? Colin (Josh, it's an anagram)? That playoff semi? Low braincell count?

I don't think it's because we relegated them. Many of them still remember that we gave Clough a very good reception on that day.

I think it's more to do with the 4-3 play off semi final defeat we inflicted on them, followed by a small number of our supporters gloating in somewhat abusive terms on their message boards.

I must admit to at one time having a soft spot for Forest, but that disappeared after that 0-0 draw at Bramall Lane towards the end of our last championship play off final season. I don't think I have ever seen such a cynical side. They had a player sent off early on and from that moment had no interest in playing any football at all. The referee also failed to get to grips with their blatant time wasting. I think what stuck in the gullet was that a lot of Forest supporters seem to think they have a patent on the right way to play football, and have at times been quite scathing of us. Probably a throw back to when they were actually very good in the early Clough years. After that match I think they forfeited the right to lecture anyone else on the right/wrong way to play football!

I remember seeing us at Preston several years ago when we won (1-0) for the first time in about 50 years at Deepdale. Jagielka got sent off and Kenny saved the resulting penalty. We were 1-0 up aty the time and it was still very early in the game. We were guilty of time wasting on a huge scale then, but Forest made us look like amateurs in that department.

I remember that game! One of the most frustrating days that season, can't remember the day that much apart from the sending off and Cotterill's last minute chance, or am I thinking of something else?

Perhaps its an inferiority complex because theyre famous for nowt but two yorkshiremen?!

I remember Paul Hart saying after the first leg at the City Ground something along the lines of "there was only one team out there trying to play football". When they went 2 up in the second leg they were singing "2-0 to the football team". The United fans response with the same song once we took the lead was one of the loudest I've ever heard at the Lane. I don't think they liked it much...

The ginger haired guy is quality too!

I always thought the Forest thing was a reference to the Miner's Strike since we call them scabs any chance we can get.

yeah the fact we've called em scabs for 30 years wont exactly help them love us!

All the above, plus the song Blades used to sing in the 70s
we hate nottingham forest
we hate sunderland too
we hate sheffield wednesday
but United we love you

Sung to the land of hope and glory tune.:D

This is true, but I think the dislike escalated a few notches after their play off semi final defeat. They really did snatch defeat from the jaws of almost certain victory.
