Seriously, being online is currently being linked to depression. I think they've been spying on us lot...

LINKY

Surfing the internet can expose a 'dark side' of the soul, with online addicts more likely to be depressed, claim psychologists.
They found the longer people spent on websites, the more unhappy they were.
Those worst affected are both depressed and addicted, possibly because they are substituting the net for normal social activities.

Research leader Dr Catriona Morrison, from the University of Leeds, said: 'The internet plays a huge part in modern life, but its benefits are accompanied by a darker side.'
Researchers questioned 1,319 people aged from 16 to 51 to assess levels of internet dependency and depression.
In general, the longer people spent online the more depressed they tended to be, reported the journal Psychopathology.
Dr Morrison said: 'There was a high correspondence between the amount of time spent on the internet and levels of depression.

'If you look at how dependent people feel they are on the internet, that is likely to correspond with how happy or sad they feel.'
The research team identified 18 hard-core internet users who spent many hours online each day and were classed as 'internet addicted'.
Their average depression score was more than five times higher than that of non-addicted users, and they were more likely to be moderately or severely depressed.

The addicts spent more time browsing pornography sites, gaming sites and online communities. They also tended to be young, having an average age of 21.
Dr Morrison added: 'Our research indicates that excessive internet use is associated with depression, but what we don't know is which comes first - are depressed people drawn to the internet or does the internet cause depression?'

Should we close the forum down on Saturday night for the mental health benefits of Blades everywhere?

I certainly find when things are very depressing to do with the Blades, I don't tend to read as much. I don't need telling that we're crap and we're never gonna do anything. I know that already!

I normally stay off the message boards when things are going badly largely because reading all about it just makes me more depressed! Last night was possibly the first time the performance has been bad enough to get to me to the extent that rather than steer clear I had to join in the rants.:(

Now if I would have put this on Blades chat, It would soon be moved to general chat.
I would have thought you'd already know this Linz.

It also comes from Leeds university. Since when have we took note of owt from Leeds?
Would it be out of order to consider a ticked off from boo?
Much appreciate the great work by the way.
What a creep I am.

a little walk to the park or to the woods. an hour in the gym or a table game with your friends are definately better for your mood than expressing your frustration on the forum or reading others rant.

on another hand, researches have shown that depression is actually good for you - it apparently is a form of self defence and urges you to figure out solutions:

I totally agree with this. My kids are in their teens and i dont allow them more than half hour or so a day on chat sites/message boards. When i say "dont allow" what i really mean is i strongly encourage them to do normal social, outdoor activities instead......have their mates round, go to the park and lark around, go dancing, karate etc etc. They dont have a facebook, bebo or any of them type of accounts - i cant for the life of me understand why somebody would want to live their life on line  These type of sites obviously do have their advantages and rewards if used in the correct way, but for example, a friend of my daughters was really really upset because her ex boyfriend was hassling her because she put on line that she was 'in a relationship'. She had blocked her ex bf, but of course people have a much wider virtual social circle and he could see all she got up to via a friends pc.

Nah, t'tinterweb chat and all this virtual stuff is excellent and enjoyable if used correctly, but im afraid there is no substitute for good old fashioned face to face communications \ interaction.

I like to pass an hour on from time to time on here, but swap it for the pub or a good old fashioned game of toger - 20 a side on the rec lol - NEVER!!!
