"Dem" Blades

I worry how some of the Younger people actually talk in our city...
Dem Blades is how is was and should be said

Its one of a lot of Dee-daa things; the fowls, being from the northern slums thats are the land of Kes will not, and cannot, understand how Sheffield Things are.

Personally, I like it. I love the way it turns an insult around and then we just ‘own’ it. It means it dies a death as a chant from the opposition fans.

I'd always thought of it as a nod to the sadly not-much-used-now dub version of the 'When the Blades go marching in'.

Blackburn away mid 80s. and we lost 5-1 (or 6-1?) but Edwards got his 200th league goal. What a day and a moral victory far superior to Wendy's recent 0-0 wonder triumph.

Sung very slowly in a mock Carribean accent

"Oz a when dem Bladezzzzz
Goes a marchin in
Izzzzzz a wanna be
In dat number.....
"

I like the whole ‘dem’ thing. It’s childishly amusing. My 2 year old says it now. And the wankers thing stems from the Mark Duffy goal.

Before the Hull game at Wembley I became part of a group of thousands of Blades fans packed together queuing for the turnstiles singing "Oh when Dem Blades.......Go Marching In!!!!" (dub-style remix!)
A couple of Scottish guys in front of me (Scougall fans??) looked on in amazement and one turned to the other and said "It's fcuking brilliant isn't it!".
He was right.

Was that the game when United fans set fire to anything they could lay their hands on?

That pleasingly made a reappearance in the 2nd half at Norwich – first time I’ve noticed it in a while.

I doubt that anyone calls our manager “Chrissy” except in the song. He’s a hard-bitten football manager, not a fucking hairdresser.

He is universally known as “Tufty” however.

One of the best songs when done properly. All too often, though, coked up teenagers with too much shandy speed it up too soon and ruin it. Nowt finer than a good prolonged slow-verse
