The consensus of opinion is sensible about the recent win; 3 points, 2nd in the league, injuries cause disruption, playing against 9 men can be tricky, etc.

However, reading the reaction of some; I fear for the response when we next drop points and the impact on this embryonic team/squad.

Please remember the pain of the last 6-7 years and the great strides made under CW in a very short time. We are beginning to resemble everything most fans want and deserve, so please a little perspective. United we must stand one and all.

Completely agree , read some comments that sound like a child has written them !!

' we lost the 2nd half to 9 men and that's shocking '

What !??!? Get a grip and enjoy the win and getting Another 3 points and going 2nd , it was a very weird 2nd half and we could have won by far more but didn't, it happens over a season, we have the best manager / team we have had for years and might actually be showing signs of getting out this awful league

It reminds me of when I was a kid and some buffoons tried to claim that it wasn't a goal unless it hit the back of the net !!
That was a idiotic thing to say also

If this ' half' winning bothers some , did the fact we 'lost ' the 1st halves to forest in the POSF 2nd leg or Leeds in the league cup put a dampner on great nights!?

At 2-0 , and 2 men down , I thought it was understandable that there wasn't the same urgency as say the second half v Chesterfield , apart from the peno save , there keeper made two good saves in second half ,
If we'd gone hell for leather , and I was disappointed we didn't ,and got more injuries people would be saving why didn't we hold back , we where 2 up etc etc .
disappointing second half , but 3 more points In our aim of getting out this fucking league
Will people be moaning when we get promoted about our display v Shrewsbury nah didn't think so .

If we miss out on auto's by one goal and miss out in the play-offs? Yeah, I think people will!

I think its nerves and the expectancy that this will all go nipples north

Nothing to moan about after yesterday, with the number of injuries we suffered to some of our key players, it was never going to be as fluid as usual in that second half.
I was disapointed we conceded a goal, but still a very comfortable victory, wasn't like we were in any panic of conceding another to them.

.

Yep, our fans are what worry me the most too.

We have some of the most fickle, least patient fans in the country, and when they create a bad, nervy atmosphere at the Lane, by-God, they really make it bad.

Conversely, we all know what a rocking Bramall Lane can do for momentum and confidence. When our fans are on fire, the Lane can be one of the most intimidating, hostile stadiums in the country, as acknowledged previously by managers such as Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino.

By the way, did anyone else notice the result from La Liga yesterday?

Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw by 9 man Malaga, at home at the Nou Camp.

Playing against 9 or 10 man teams can be very very difficult. I remember many times over the years, when United teams have lost in similar circumstances.

Yesterday was a fantastic result and performance from the Blades. Well done Wilder and players.

TBF Dubbers, that particular 'If' isn't even on the radar for me.
The Blades are going up my man ;)
Already said it fella , on numerous occasions this season, just we will get games like second half yesterday where it won't be pretty , but it's a win , 3 more points get anything from our game in hand and start to put a small bit a distance between us and closer to scunny

Anyone else think that we ought to consider an alternative for taking penalties?

There was a big difference yesterday compared to previous seasons.

When they pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 there was no panic and no nervousness.
Under Clough and Adkins we'd have sat back to hold on to a 2-1 or started time wasting.

Where as yesterday for the last 20 minutes it was us forcing Shrewsbury back.
It was only during injury time that the players actually thought about time wasting when we just casually passed it around the defence running down the clock.

It was a fluke scoreline.
Another very impressive performances, 30 shots and 20 corners would normally result in a 6-0.

We all know that we've always had a set of fans (probably about 5% IMO) who are as the old saying goes "never so happy as when they're miserable"
there always there waiting in the wings for a slip -

Anybody who moans at present needs reality check-up, FFS we are second in the league

No disgrace in the second half performance.

Shrewsbury fans are raving about their commitment - and all their players are looking to impress the new manager.

3 points is three points

Greasy, ya numpty ;), ya know what I mean. Wasn't a great take yesterday and he missed summat like three last year. Just an area we need to be pretty clinical on.
Said to my Nephew yesterday Kenny, "this goes straight down the middle and the keeper saves it" I'd like to claim to be a fortune-telling, football expert, but I'd have to share the title with about 20,000 others.
To be sensible....just for one second...you're spot on Mate. Sharpy needs to mix it up a bit.

Anyone remember the game against pompey at the Lane? not sure whether they went down to 8 or. 9
(silent?). They had every player camped on there 18 yard line and we found it very difficult. If I remember right Mariner scored an O G and we won. 1 -0, making chances was difficult. We did create quite a few yesterday but it just wouldn't go in

Yeh I was there, think it was 1986.
All I remember was that they had the ex Ipswich and England player Paul Mariner playing for them.

Has there been many comments expressing anger, disappointment at only winning 2-1? most people on here are generally level headed enough to see the game as we could have won by a bigger margine but, as Wilder stated after the match, 3 points and gone second in the league, the only concern everybody has is regarding the injured players, so I think the original post is over the top.

Hate to tell you this, but they're the very same people.

There really is no point in stressing, that's what Wilder is here for, to assess, analyse, and make the decisions that are more right than wrong. CW will know the why's and how's, so let's invest trust in our manager. Not only is he a good 'un, his appreciation of what we need to move forward has been proved to good and getting better game by game. As was said by the OP, should we lose a game, what would happen? Would it result in a hissy fit by some? Would they adopt their manager-by-proxy position and point out the tactical errors that resulted in this loss? Best to ignore this type of mistaken arrogance, allow CW to put right what went wrong, that's his job and he's proving to be pretty good at it. There's a reason this forum is constantly so full of praise for Wilder (and Knill), we feel like a team with a purpose, at last we're on fire and we're moving forward with the sort of drive that we've not seen for at least a decade or more. Remember this when we lose a game, add some perspective, and remember that we have a manager who has SUFC running through his veins, which is far, far more than can be said for previous incumbents.

Certain people have to moan regardless of what happens. Pointing out we lost the second half 9 men, saying we were awful and slow etc etc.

It's all just proverbial bollocks to try and get a dig in at the club, I mean us been 13 unbeaten and 2nd in the league just really isn't good enough.

Just saddos with nothing else in their life apart from being controversial on Twatter etc

From memory I think Mariner played at centre back for them.

It was 8 against 10 in the second half. Pompey lined up on the edge of their area and we couldn't break them. Paul Mariner played sweeper and scored the winner - an own goal.

Once they went 1-0 down they brought Vince Hilaire on and he hit the post.

30 years ago this month - I'm getting old. Sendings off were, from memory, Tait, Dillon and Gilbert for them and Beagrie for us. All in the first half. Beagries sending off was for fighting with one of their 3.

We have actually lost to 9 men: when we lost 2-0 at Millwall in 2003-4 they had 2 players sent off in the last 5 minutes. Dennis Wise went for a spectacular 2 footed tackle about a minute after bringing himself on.

He clashed with Mick Tait

The football we are playing of late has been a joy,and I would find it hard to criticise anything of late. Maybe we should have hammered them yesterday and would have done without the change of personnel, but once again I left the ground having been thoroughly entertained by the Wizards, loving it.
