Anything can and does win the Grand National but is this an omen for us on our promotion day.

Definitly Red - best odds 11/1

Sportinglife verdict: Won four of his nine starts over fences and impressed at Doncaster last time when beating last year's Grand National runner-up The Last Samuri. Has always shaped as though he would appreciate this extra test of stamina and he's well ahead of the handicapper but he will need to step up in the face of his toughest task to date.

SLife Rating (out of 5* * * * *): 4* * * *

Saphir du rheu
Ucello conti
Highland lodge
More of that
OFaolains boy

Had a look at the runners to see if any were donning red and white stripes on the jersey.

No luck, but look closely at the cap which will be worn by Definitely Red's jockey...

Not sure it will get the distance, and 8 year olds don`t tend to win the National. Having said that, it`s not the race it used to be since all the course alterations.

If he was called Definitely Red and White I may have had a flutter...

The owner is a blade. That's why he's called that.

Bring back Lester Piggott so that Wednesday fans have somebody to bet on.

EDIT: And Jonjo O'Squeal.

That's my entire horse racing knowledge compressed into two sentences.

My thoughts here:

Got the winner last year.
Very good article mate. I think that The Last Samuri has too much weight, and Houblon Des Obeaux needs softer ground. Although only two 8 year olds have won in the last 25 years, the nature of the course now might make it easier for that to happen.
I fancy four :- Vieux Lion Rouge, 8 year old with a 52% win record, and a 67% win/place record. One For Arthur, 8 year old with a 77% win/place record. Wonderful Charm, 9 year old with a 67% win/place record. Rogue Angel with a 36% win/place record, but trained by last year`s winning trainer, and which won about this time last year at Fairyhouse over similar ground and distance. All these have Aintree experience, will be suited by the ground, and have a chance of getting the distance. Here`s hoping !

If this year's National is anything like it usually is, Definitly Red will be Probably Dead this time tomorrow :(

Perhaps more of a Cheltenham horse but has run at Aintree before. Will like the ground and gets the trip. Right age too. Good luck !

I'm a massive racing fan, but not that keen on the national. I know it's the 'people's race' etc etc, and perhaps it's sports snobbery but Cheltenham is the pinnacle, that's where the elite stuff is.

have a few Lira on Just a Par

Low weight
Decent lad on board
reyt age
Nicholls trainer
Experience - ran in this race last year
Won last time out
Changed hands for a £100k yesterday

Value at 40/1 just needs a bit of luck in running

Why opt for a manc poo named horse, when Saphir during Rhue has a jockey wearing a blades shirt!!?!!;)

Vicente
Saphir du Rhue
Pleasant company
Highland lodge

My 5 against the field;

Houblon Des Obeaux
Vicente
Blaklion
Just A Par
Ucello Conti

What's this got to do with the Blades btw ;)
