I am confused with our fan base.

Yesterday we scored 2 and had 2 golden chances in Cannon and Brewster to make it 4. So attacking wise our performance was efficient even if not good on the eye.

Defensively it was awful we got cut open down both flanks, gave away 100 free kicks in good areas. Didn’t win 1st or 2nd balls got dominated in behind. Back line didn’t keep possession well or build anything.

Yet majority of fans on here are moaning about the attacking players? And who should start or if Hamer (Man of match again) should play as a 10. Makes no difference if our defence plays like it does.

For those who want a moan at Wilder then you should be moaning at why the back 4 are defending like they aren’t professional footballers and what is he going to do too fix it.

He went with a solid midfield 2 maybe he should
Change to a back 5 or a flat midfield 3.

Portsmouth were a good team as they were at their place
The lineup looked solid but too many new faces and we missed Callum o hare
Onwards upwards and learn from it

Correct. Our chance creation when having the ball on the floor, under control in their half was very high. I counted five excellent chances in the game which is really good when we very rarely got the ball under control in their half. If we'd have been able to play through the first third more frequently the evidence suggests we'd have created more high quality chances. Five is still very good.

The issues were progressing the ball forward from the Keeper, two centre backs and midfield two, forwards, on the ground to a Blades player. Invariably we ended up with the keeper or fullbacks whacking it or losing it somewhere between the edge of our box and the halfway line.

Failure to deal with their high balls

Losing the second balls after losing the aerial challenges despite having two combative midfielders in there.

Giving too many cheap free kicks away in our third. We essentially "brought them on" due to the above reasons.

Generally speaking and if you look at the stats we are performing better defensively than offensively so the issue, which is backed up by the stats is more due to a lack of creativity. I don't see how you could watch our games and think otherwise personally.

Statistically our defensive stats mainly see us near the top of the table 3rd - 11th whereas offensively we sit more towards mid-table for most of the stats 7th - 17th.

But those defensive stats are boosted with Souttar being in the side. Anel & Robbo the stats (I haven’t seen them) but expect them to have dropped of a cliff. He’s not here anymore.

We aren’t free flowing I agree 100%. We aren’t a scratch on Leeds offensively.

But defensively yesterday we didn’t win a header. We defendes so poorly.

I don’t see how you could watch yesterday and not see us giving away 5 big chances (without anything exceptional from the opposition) and not want to look at defensive issues as a priority.

Agree with parts of that for sure. Without Souttar we are not as efficient defensively, he was very good for us.

I actually didn't watch yesterdays game and my comments are more general for this season. I live in Koh Phangan and I was out in the evening so I didn't catch it, but will find a replay and try and endure it. Based on the Souttar situation then I get what your saying. Perhaps the issue is we are very average in both departments and to maximise our chance of success then optimising one area would be wise. Hamer aside creatively we are a bit flat and without Soutar & Vini/hamza defensively we are a bit nervy. I think generally though we have enough defensively to get us over the line.

Whatever you do do not watch yesterday’s game! Avoid it at all costs.

Yeah yesterday if the chances we created were against a side reduced to a pot shot or two people would be much happier.

The defending yesterday was woeful
