Had many a dive/ penalty decision on your way to the Premier League. Would it be ok to go back and review those and possibly deduct points that could mean you‘d not got promoted?

I had to put a different one of your lot back in their box about this feeling that we'd had loads of penalties last season. This is what I posted after the outrageous dive which got Them a matchwinning penalty at home against Bristol City earlier this season.

I caught 5 minutes while I was trying to find Match of the Day on catch up. It looked to my untrained eye that the Hillsborough pitch was slow - grass left long and over watered to prevent the opposition moving the ball quickly or am I just overthinking it?

That was never, ever a penalty either; Bristol City had every right to be aggrieved at that.

FAO Thelodger our penalties last season - we were awarded 7 (scored 5), none of which were in any doubt.

1 QPR (A): McGoldrick clearly pushed in the back when jumping for a header. No doubt. Penalty scored by McGoldrick


2 Millwall (A): clear handball, penalty missed by Sharp


3 Millwall (A): Duffy cleared out. Penalty scored by McGoldrick


4 Hull (H): O'Connell dragged to the ground, no doubt about the decision. McGoldrick scores.


5 Wednesday (H): Fox trips Duffy after being beaten in the box. No doubt. Penalty missed by McGoldrick


6 Norwich (A): Stevens barged over. No doubt. Penalty scored by Sharp

Wednesday have, by the way, been awarded 6 penalties so far in 2019/20 with 9 games left (20% of the season). I've only seen the Bristol one I mention above and that one was an absolute shocker of a decision.

Anyone would think nobody had ever been denied a goal by a bad decision before.

True but we now have two lots of tech, a remote video ref, a fourth official, a linesman and the match ref yet it hasn't changed anything. In the past when there have been ghost goals it was only the linesman and the ref making the decisions and it was pure human error (bar a bent ref) that a goal got disallowed.

Why spend all that money on tech for exact same outcomes?

Oh so that's why he was listening to his ear not moments after the goal was disallowed? For a penalty that didn't need giving nowhere near the same time frame of play? Yeah, that's what that was.

The only way the PL are going to come out of this at all well is to be totally honest ( yes, I know), and say who exactly is responsible and why. Same with the Hawkeye people. Show us the camera shots they claim were obscured.

As for Mike Riley, fuck off, we don't need to hear your weasally rubbish.

Disagree with this. The pictures are clear and it’s a matter of fact decision not an opinion. He knows it was a goal and should have been given. This isn’t like a referees decision or even VAR, the ref said he couldn’t give it because Hawkeye hadn’t given it so he didn’t go to VAR.
Villa had a choice and they opted to not do the right thing in the chance of a win. That’s up to them but I for one hope they don’t win another point this season or next.

Even in cricket, players rarely walk, despite the fact tv shows they nicked it seconds later. The team coach certainly doesn’t hoik their batsman off the pitch after they see the replay.

Villa got outrageously lucky, but I never expected Smith to step in.

I am obviously pissed off as a Blade this has happened but how much more pissed off would I be if I was a supporter of a team that got relegated because Villa got that point. That’s hundreds of millions gone because of the failure of this system. The PL. have banged on about finishing the league for the integrity of the competition and yet day one game one the integrity is completely undermined.

I think where I differ on this to other "part of the game" advantages is that this is an absolute matter of fact, and it wasn't questioned because Hawkeye was supposed to be perfect.
If this happened before Hawkeye then I'd absolutely agree that it's part of the game and you got away with one, however it's slightly different now with this technology has been in place for a while and was broadly accepted as being infallible. The ref didn't refer it to VAR because it's not captured in VARs remit because Hawkeye is never wrong.
The linesman and ref's have stop looking for themselves, because Hawkeye is never wrong.
Even Grealish said when the United players were insisting it went in he was sure it hadn't because the watch hadn't gone off.
All that together means it's not a normal rub of the green situation and certainly much worse than what Smith and the Villa bench were screaming about against Leeds.

It’s a competition. The Premier League. To compete you use all the assets at your disposal. If you’re able to strengthen your team and weaken the opposition by doing so then that’s what you should do.
