He did but you'd expect an over enthusiastic young player to go flying in like that in the box, not an experienced pro.

Heat of the moment, it can affect most people. Look at Jay Mc @ Spurs was it?

we'll just move on..

Adkins man, flagship signing and a pity for the manager. Crazy penalty for a seasoned professional to give away in that part of the penalty area. Hammond was the last of the three statues last week when that young Samuelson waltzed round them for Peterborough's winner. The manager will be embarrassed and rightly so. We signed Hammond to add leadership and experience.

BTW Brayford was lacking just before the penalty incident too, brushed past. That's where to give the foul away but there was no reason to do so because we had loads of cover in the area.

Gutted, not embarrassed.

Lets be clear it was the Beard that was at fault! he thought he could muscle Depay off the ball but was out muscled himself & by that time it was too late to knock the ball out of play. Hammond was trying to tidy his mistake. But even then MU only had 2 players centrally running into the box against our 5-6 players. Ce la vie.

Clear to see where the issue is with us, Billy needs someone to play with up front. I am afraid that Sammon is very poor & at best is a 20 min sub. The so called poor defence coped with MU very well, & whilst I am not saying it is good, it ought to cope with L1 teams.............saying that I guess L1 teams do not come onto us as MU did!

He has a habit of diving in like a schoolboy and getting us in trouble. In a recent game at the Lane he got booked for a stupid foul outside the box and if I recall correctly Long had to save well from the free kick.

He's ruined a lot of people's hard work tonight with his stupidity.

He'd have been our best player if he hadn't lost us the game. Yeah great.

I thought he was poor in possession in the first half to be honest but then admittedly we weren't in possession very much.

Not going to criticise any player for their goal. We could have tried to keep the ball up their end of the pitch a bit more.... but we didn't. Hammond ultimately was the one who committed the foul (their guy made it look like Hammond had assaulted him with a pickaxe handle)... but it's unfair to load blame onto him. He played well in my view..... and there were others who could have done more in the build up to stop the play developing as it did.

For me.... no blame on anyone. I just wanted us to give a good account of ourselves - and we did. The fact that the manager of Man Utd has been reduced to making a bit of a tit of himself by having a pop at us tells me we did a (good) job on them. The league is and always has been the priority.

Would have been MOM but for that foul. thought he was first class.

Yeah, thought he played great up until then too - totally shut Manure down in the middle of the park along with Basham.

Same goes for Brayford - till his role in the goal he was superb. Him & Coutts down the right make such a difference to us.

A superb backs-to-the wall team performance all in all. Just marred by that moment of madness.

All 11 players MOMs (& Ryan Flynn too).
Fans top class: 11/10.

We just needed a bit of quality to replace Woolford and Sammon. I was hoping Done would have had come on for Sammon earlier myself as his pace may have caused them a problem. I think I will be bringing in Done and Adams on Tuesday for Woolford and Sammon> We need goals back in the team.

We have been playing well recently, so no reason we can't kick on from this.

Every player played well from a defensive point of view. Extremely disciplined with everyone working together as a team. Didn't ever look like scoring so frustrating in that regard. We deserved the replay no doubt about that, but we didn't get it because in the 92nd minute Hammond made a stupid mistake and it cost us. Overall that one mistake on a solid performance leaves me very disappointed.

Great noise from the away end, had to watch on tv and the Blades sang in full voice throughout the entire match which is very embarrassing for their to be 65k+ fans for Man U and be outsang all game long.

Chris Basham motm.

brayford got done by the winger and Hammond was covering, 93 minutes in - it wasn't a very good tackle.

It's always worth bearing in mind that when the opposition can bring on a Dutch international who cost £25m in the summer it always makes things more difficult.

All 14 players who got on the pitch should be able to take the positives from that display, it's not the end of the world and we were a bit unlucky in the end to lose, but the really important games happen over the next 3 months.

Very pleased with the performance today. Okay, we were playing an effective 4-5-1 (even with Sammon and Sharp supposedly playing two up) and played most of the game in our half. We made Man United look very much like Man United are - a spent footballing force. For a team to have a very good, world class player like Rooney in there and a host of other internationals as well, our team neutralised them, took the ball off them and made them play under pressure. The foul? Yep, Hammond misjudged, over slid and left his foot in. As soon as you make contact (and he did) the deal is sealed at that level and no Unitedite could expect any player - even Sharp last week for example, to stay on his feet.

Every player deserves a rarely-gained-these-days pat on the back.

We say this every time but if we could get them to use that kind of energy in the league we'd be up near the top now. But you can't play 4-5-1 in L1 and expect to come away with points. And Wigan won't play like Man United on Tuesday. They'll be exposing the weaknesses we consistently display - poor defensive coherence, non-existent midfield bite and under-subscription in attack.
