What a bellend.

Now I don’t like him anyway, he has all the chemistry of a cardboard box and his opinion matters none to me.

However - his comment on Forest’s red card was ridiculous. He said McGoldrick dived - what a complete and utter arsehole.

Obviously doesnt like us, which is fine because he’s absolutely shite at his job.
 



Look back on what was ACTUALLY said. He didn’t say he dived. He said he could have stayed on his feet.

Using the D word amplifies, and takes out of context, what was actually said to make a specific point that, bluntly, isn’t there !!

McG didn't dive - the Forest defender made it impossible to get in on goal with his "missed" initial attempt (and well done to McG for trying to continue) - if you watch the video it's McG rear leg that catches the defender as he brings it down.

The defender caused McG not to have a clear goal scoring action because of his action - the REF got it spot on.

As for covering players - the 2 Forest defenders were 2 yards behind - that is not covering. The ref got it spot on. What some also need to understand is that the defender wanted to stop McG progress and if it had happened in the area it would have been a penalty and NOT a sending off. He knew exactly what he was doing and didn't get away with it.

Whether or not anyone actually agrees with ALL of the new rules, brought in to stop CYNICAL footballers is immaterial - they ARE the rules and VAR will hopefully stop a lot of the other cynical actions in and around the penalty box. Ban a few players for 3, then 5, then 10 games for repeated offences and it will soon stop.

Spurs are in the semi final of the Champions league because of VAR - that too is there for a reason.

“Actually when you look at it again, McGoldrick could have stayed on his feet, he could have easily stayed on his feet, so therefore for me it was a dive” is what he actually said. He uses the D word.

Aside from that though he was complementary on us handling the pressure of this game.
 
Ashton is an idiot. "Could have stayed on his feet" implied McGoldrick dived. He also said the most difficult remaining game of the Blades / Weeds fixtures was Ull v Blades. Presumably he's not noticed Villa have just won nine on the spin.

No he did. At the end of it he said ‘he dived’. Watch it again.

I don't know if he went down easily or not, only Didsy really knows that.

All I do know is that the papers this morning all say Sheff Utd 2 - 0 Forest.

That'll do for me, I'm not into paralysis by analysis.

Edit: if I believed that he was cheating though I would not be a happy man. One of the best things about this time is the general honesty with which they play.

If VAR was used at yesterday’s game, we’d have conceded a very cruel penalty for handball - arm outstretched changing silhouette of body - it doesn’t clear everything up!

Oh, and I think it was well-respected ref, Rob Styles who once gave Liverpool a pen at the Lane because “the Sheffield defender INTENDED to foul Stevie G”...maybe yesterday’s ref was a Styles disciple
 
The pundits Sky had a closer look at it after the game and said it was a red. No mention of Dizzy being able to stay on his feet.

I’ve no idea why Quest use Ashton so much when they’ve got most other things right this season. He obviously seems to have a problem with us, but let’s not let that cloud the issue that he’s basically shite as a pundit.

I thought his comments were terrible, there is no way that is a dive. Didsy goes past him the challenge causes him to stumble. At the time of the challenge no defender was going to get anywhere near him.

The first thing the Forest player does us turn and look at the ref because he knows full well what he has done. Keith Andrew got it spot on Ashton is a fool.

The biggest cheat if the day was his beloved Naarwich when the player dived for the free kick. Now that is a dive Dean. (To be fair he accepted that)

Ashton is dull as ditch water, there are far better pundits out there.
 
The forest player throws himself at his feet when he’s through on goal ready to take a shot.

What is he supposed to do other than exactly what he did do? I don’t think he was trying to get the forest defender sent off.

Theres far too much stock put on pundits, especially these days, when they’re ten a penny. It seems like every single ex player in history is shoved behind a desk, given a suit and tie and given a platform to flap their gums.

Theres so many platforms for it these days- live games on Sky, BT, BBC, etc; highlights shows, betting company videos, podcasts and the rest. So much quantity, so little quality. Darren Huckerby, Paul Parker, Dean Ashton to name three. None of them have actually done anything in the game for years. But few a hundred quid and a much-needed ego massage, they’ll get a booking from BTSports+3, or a SSN 3am- 5am opinion slot, or Betfreds Youtube channel because these companies are all just desperate to fill content.

The rules in football have moved on since Morg's attempt at cutting Gerard off at the knees. Intent is now more used to deal with a host of cynical footballers. I have lost count of the number of times that professional pundits turned round and say " nah, not enough for me" - the problem is that players are deliberately doing "just" enough to just put a player off. VAR will catch them and the game will be better once cheating footballers are found out.

The cheating dirty b@stards in the late sixties, early 70's, 30 miles up the M1 would have a real problem today.

As for VAR, yes it might have given Forest a penalty, but the silhouette issue is for next season, which should help in the refs decision making. VAR will give loads of penalties and changes of decisions - what it WILL do is clean up the game in and around the box and decision areas.
