They haven't had a lot of time on the pitch together but Davies and Done seem to have a very good understanding and work very well together.

As far as I can tell it's not that conventional either - for instance who would have predicted Davies putting in a great cross for Done to finish, as happened the other week.

On Thursday it was the more usual Davies flicking it on and Done picking it up.

Our very own Toshack and Keegan.

Reasons to Be Cheerful :)

Yes, they are potentially a very good partnership and I hope they start together tonight. As long as we're strong enough in midfield I think we have a reasonable chance of beating them.

I'll support WHF's view about Davies and Done. If Done is fit enough for the bench he's fit enough to begin the game. There's nothing complicated about our plan tonight. We don't have to over-think what's ahead of us, we just need to be tenacious from the moment the whistle is blown. Not mindlessly of course, but with a focus and drive that says we know what we have to do. UTB

I don't quite get this, are we saying Done is fit for tonight for more than 20 minutes or so?

No way can he be anywhere near fit or surely he would have played in the home leg surely. That was the leg to go and win this tie and if he plays from the start tonight I'll be gobsmacked.

Risk of further injury still applies and the manager has Wembley to think about.

The manager should not be thinking about wembley. We must win tonight at all costs.

The manager should have been thinking about winning last Thursday, that's my point, but the lad can't be fit enough to play from the start. How he's fit enough to run around for 20 minutes with more pace and intent than the rest of the team combined ( with the exception of Flynn) is a matter for conjecture but that's what happened last Thursday.

Personally I am sick and tired of turning up at Wembley to support my team without a striker. There must be a reason Done didn't start games recently.

The manager has a difficult dilemma obviously, he likes 4-5-1, he likes Davies and if he plays Done from the start he'll play him in wide midfield. I think he'll hold him back again for whatever reason.

I think he should be sticking McNulty in the team, on the basis that unlike Davies and Done he's actually scored a goal recently, but I know that frequency of goalscoring is not what Clough likes in a striker.

I agree...but Cluffy says he struggles to fit them both in the team! Yes Nige, because only a crackpot would be reckless enough to play 2 strikers...

That was you reasoning for playing Holt on Thursday as well... ;)

I think we'll produce chances and score goals if we get the team balance spot on. I think it implies playing 4-4-2 with Basham and Coutts in central midfield and Davies and Done up front.

Maybe we are up to our usual tricks - ensure we get to the Play Off final without any fit strikers available.

Hang on - that's it. Clough's fucking master plan!
Why didn't I twig this before?
We use Done and Davies in the semi to come back from the brink as they put in a super human effort but end up crocked and we lose both of them through injury
Then we go into the final and McNuts is available, cotton wooled, fresh, saved for the event itself.
So he starts on the bench.
Brilliant!

Yes it was, and if it's a choice between Scougall, Reed and Holt I'd make that choice again. None of them are playing well but Holt can finish.

In an ideal world I'd play none of them but as much as I like 4-4-2 I can't see Clough doing it.

I'm not sure they fit best into a conventional set up. I can't remember the specifics but the game where Davies set up Done weren't they thrown together by force of circumstance and just began interchanging positions?

Done has his own way of doing things, I think the runs he makes and the positions he takes up are, er, idiosyncratic.

Davies seems to be on his wavelength though.

Radical Suggestion: Play them together. Give them freedom to take up their own positions (within reason) going forward but clearly defined roles when we're defending.

Is this sort of thing even possible?

(None of this is based on close analysis.)

I thought they played well together the other night. Pitty they could not start the match together.

If Done is fit enough for the bench he's fit enough to begin the game.

NC has said in his pre-match interview that had Done been fit enough to start Thursday, he would have. What we saw from Done was an impressive short spell on the pitch. That's not evidence he is fit enough to do an hour plus, which is what we need from our starters - particularly as this could be a 120 minute job. Though of course, he may now be fit enough to start tonight.

Berg . There is one area that will win this . Midfield is the key to all things success tonight . If that battle is not won , we are out.

I get that LoughboroBlade, but I suppose my feeling is that if we don't take it to 'em from the start and impose ourselves, it may be too late to do so. We have few 'big guns' who can make a difference, Murphy and Done being part of that select group. I understand the risks, the risk Done may take with his injury and so on, but if we don't begin with our intentions clear there's a possibility we may be chasing our tail and any thought of getting the result we need may be fading into the night. And then, should Done enter the game with minutes left, it may be too late to argue the toss about when he should have started.

Swindon will play the ball around for the first 20 min, we will be running around like Kenilworths avatar chasing the ball down and then attack us when we are knackered. Hopefully NC will realise this and get us to play our own game, patience will be the key, if we go out gung-ho we will lose.

Said this before.

But.

It's time to see McN & Done up top with Davies on bench to stir things up in last 20 if needed.

Best chance we have of scoring a goal or 4 !!!

Agreed. You can play gung-ho but we're about as far from suited to it as it's possible to be.

Blood and Thunder can soon become Thud and Blunder.

If we go charging in tonight we'll get picked off.

wont happen clough has said the 2 cant play together so my betting is one up front look for the 1 nill win

Totally agree, Davies had his chance on Thursday night in the first leg, missed 2 absolute sitters.

Alternatively, we sit back and get picked off:)
