Davey back to Chelsea

Oxford have lost Roofe and O'Dowda, but seems to have signed some very decent players and look quite strong on paper. Maybe this season's surprise team?

Wouldn't it be nice for once , that the league 1 surprise team is Sheffield United Football Club. Decent players , strong on paper , and do the business were it matters - on the pitch .

:D

In an ideal world, I’d have liked McFadzean and Beevers as the first choice pairing backed up by a combination of one of Tafazolli/ O Connell and one of Nelson/Cameron. Wishful thinking perhaps but having 2 proven experienced centre halves backed up by 2 young up and coming ones would be a great position to be in. Wilson and Wright give an impression of doing it on the cheap and trying to get by with squad players as first team players.

Agree, but from doing a bit of research, it seems that Davey is far from good enough, at least at the moment. The likes of Sean McGinty and Jasper Johns shows that even the top rated academies have a few squad fillers.

Incidentally, the only 2 players from Man United's YC final team that beat us that are not still in professional football are the two that signed for us.

Doesn't bother me what footed they are, I just don't agree with discounting central players because of what footed they are.

Fair point about lefties not being adapted to playing on the right, but why would the opposition left winger often follow as oppose to the right winger?

Sorry, poorly written. I meant to give an example where, say Wilson (right sided centre half) received the ball short from Long and Brayford (rb) moved forward to take up an attacking wide right position. The opposition left winger will often drop deeper as well, meaning there's space to the right of Wilson to prepare a forward pass. If Wilson was a left footer he'd have to cut back to his left foot, which would have given a smaller angle for his pass and the increased risk of being blocked by the striker, closing down from central.

Probably made it even more confusing!?! But it would be the same on the left side.

Your telling me a professional footballer can't make a simple pass with his wrong foot? Or can only pass in one direction with his good foot?

Most footballers, professional or not, have more power and better accuracy with a preferred foot, which is one of the reasons Wilder likes a right footer in the right sided centre half position. I think he wants more than just simple passes from his centre halves.

I never considered MacFadz as a ball playing centre half, although I haven't seen that much of him. I thought he was a head it, kick it, type.
