Really good video he tells it how it is but toned his language down a bit.
4 real opportunity 's in my time to join the big boys and we have let all 4 slip away
1960s we had a really good team which was turning out plenty of good players ( home grown ) that alone is not enough! Investing in one or two signings to supplement what we had is where we went wrong each time and it revolves around money or lack of ìt .
This has played out each tim
e where a bit of investment would have made the difference .
We are at the cross roads again!
How much do the Americans want it ! Selling our best players in the summer will tell us a lot if that happens..Investment this summer
means the club will run at a big loss but ! Would stand the club in a position to have a crack at it ( if the playoffs are beyond us this time)
The parashoot money was wasted do they ow us one! We shall see soon enough.

You do we realise our Sky income reduces from £35 million this year to £7 million next season.
That means we MUST reduce costs by £28 million or sell players bringing in £28 million…….and that’s just to balance the books.

Failure to balance the books results in a 10 point deduction.
Owners like Chansiri refused to sell his better players…saw the club heading towards FFP sanctions so tried to raise £60 million by selling the stadium to himself…..and looked what happened to them.

If we refuse to have major sales this Summer…..then I’d be questioning the competency of the owners.
Maybe they’ll have 1 more year to stay within the £95 million per 3 rolling years lost.
So we might gamble next season but all 3 relegated teams will be big favourites.

My point is the owners can’t keep…..recklessly building up debts….there are rules in place to control their spending
And from next season…..our parachute money runs out….so we are skint…..similiar finances to clubs like Stoke and West Brom,

They can inject capital - so we're not necessarily skint until that doesn't happen.

I'm sure you'll be proved right though.

both great managers bassett for man management and motivation but not his style of football harris good man management and brilliant attacking football and tactics harris number 1 for me

Bassett had to use " style of football" to get us up the divisions, bringing in players what fitted the way he wanted to play, it was only when we got in the top division he started to play a different style, as per usual the board pulled the rug from under him, selling players leaving him in no man's land, very hard done by Harry!

With the very limited money he had, even the bigger money purchases were good ones. Gayle, Pemberton, Beesley, Hodges, Nilsen. Even Vinnie did a job for us.

The lower money buys were even better. Deane, Agana, Bryson, Bradshaw, Colin Hill, Gannon, Mike Lake, Paul Rogers, Gage.

Very rare failures in the transfer market. Even those considered ‘failures’ we tended to get our money back on (Wirmola, Mendonca, Falconer).

I'm the same " old school " but what I was referring to was, he had no money which required silk purses out of pigs ears☺️ yes it wasn't to all our liking, but it got the job done👍 As for John Harris, dare say we'll never see that quality again, not in my day's left anyway 😊

Possibly the transfer that best summed him.up for me was Bob Booker. An aged, injury ridden Brentford reserve brought in to undergo an uncertain start. By sheer force of nature worked his way through it to become a magnificent Blades legend and absolutely carried the spirit of the club.

I've said this before on an older similar thread - Dave Bassett is the guy who gave us our identity that is still around today.

Many oppopsing fans have their opinions about 'Chris Wilder's Sheffield United' and it often follows that they say it's exactly the same as a 'Neil Warnock SUFC'

Difficult to beat. In your face. Give 100%. A real never say die spirit.

All very true but it took a souherner in the 1980's to recognise what we were about as a club and as a fan base. Dave Bassett moulded his teams at he Lane to match us on the terraces.

The other thing that endeared us to him was his brutal honesty, and we’d never had that before. Only the usual “we tried hard but it wasn’t our day” stuff.

I remember after an excellent start in Div 3 we lost at Bolton (I think our first defeat of the season) and he slated the team afterwards. It was like a breath of fresh air and very Yorkshire-like.

Warnock and Wilder don’t get this from the fans as they are from here so it is expected but it was very unusual for any manager to criticise their own team at that time, let alone a southerner.

I consider Harry an honorary Yorkshireman in this regards.

A superb manager & a gentleman who I had the pleasure to chat with on occasion. He created a fantastic attacking side out of peanuts which gained us back to back promotions to the top league & kept us there for 4 seasons on a shoe string .
Add to that his CV with Wimbledon , Barnsley & Forest he was a very very good & underrated manager .
Gave me some of my most memorable days a as a Blade ⚔️
