The Sun today says danny webber to make possible return as he is a free agent, be interesting to hear peoples views on this (before linz moves this thread to the rumour mill) as i think he could do very well in this division and could only be a positive addition to the current squad...

WHy would we wantg another injury prone past it?
He couldnt do it four us 4 years ago.
Whats the diffrence now?

I thought Webber was good for us during the 05-06 season after Kabba had gone "Radio Ga-Ga", still that was then.

If only he'd have scored instead of hitting the post v wigan

If only Don Givens had scored in 1981 and Tracey saved those shots in 1994 and 1997. Time for a "if only" Blades XI:

1. Tracey
2.
3.
4
5.
6.
7.
8.
9. Webber
10. Givens
11.

On his day fantastic player. Unfortunatley this was only 1 in 234 games. I remember going to Vicarage Road, opening game of season in the fateful Robson Era. Shittu dominated Webber to the point where I really thought I could do a better job.

Then we beat Ipswich 3-0? at lane later in season and he was simply awesome. I would take him to give us another option with the current situation.

am I right in thinking we can sign any player that is a free agent at any point in the season?

If only David Seaman didn't save Peschisolido's shot in FA Cup semi final and Jagielka blaze the follow up! If Only Marcus Bent scored in the last minute from a yard out against the pigs at the sty in the league cup instead of hitting the bar etc.....

Ok darren how about number 11 if only Dane had not got injured. Yeah Peschi number 7.

If only we hadnt missed 2 penalties v Blackburn.
If only webber hadnt missed the penalty V chelsea.
If only Hulse had not hits the bar 12 bastardin times in the premiership

Didnt Doc Pace have a goal disallowed for handball in a Cup semi final?

Id have Webber back on a pay as you play basis. He was decent the second half of the promotion season and scored some class goals (against Burnley and L**ds spring to mind). Still, I cant forget his miss away at Portsmouth. If only...

I think there were a fair few 'if onlys' in the 2006-7 season alone.

If only Paddy kenny hadn't dropped the ball then tripped Johnson against Everton. If only Unsworth and/or Hulse had scored their penalties against Blackburn. If only Davis and Gerrard hadn't had their misunderstanding against Portsmouth. If only the referee hadn't given that penalty against Liverpool in the first match of that season. If only Lucketti had managed to jump with his man against Newcastle. Etc,etc, etc

If only Brian Smith ahd not broken his leg

If only Dave Powell - what happened to his leg?

If only Jags had not given away the penalty to Wigan..........

We didn't actually miss any of those penalties. They were all saved.

Sure, great news. Why not offer another lucrative end of career contract to a never been that is well into their twilight days. Forget about pace, athleticism, youth and hunger. Let's got for the 'tried and tested'. Why not offer poor old Danny a permanent contract and have him warm the treatment table. Is Marcus Bent available too? They could smash these plazzy third division defences .....

just say no to returning players.. if it's not beattie then it's tonge or jagielka (i mean really), currie or nudger needham.. honestly

As I said in the rumour mill NO NO NO NO! Please god not Danny 'one trick' Webber. But Beatie is a different story, Id have him back in a flash

Webber on a cheap pay as you play deal to get a different kind of striker is possibly worth considering if we don't have a better viable option. Not a fan of his but we are in a new reality now.

And Leeds away was a great night.

Exactly what Ollie says.

If only Warnock and McCabe had seized the most golden of opportunities ever to glitter. 10 points clear of relegation. Shall we bring in the extra quality we need to ensure survival....................

Fully expected a reply like that from you pal, its fine tho, like i said its interesting to get others opinions on the matter but i believe at present he would be a better option than currebt strike force and with no transfer fee, who knows but i think he could be worth a shot, better signing than porter IMO

I think we could manage with this one but not the old one trick pony we used to know and berate

I say bring him in, he's better than porter lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about we give Philiskirk or Tonne a start rather than wasting money on an old never been?

Completely agree with Oli, must be a first time for everything I suppose

Not for me gents / ladies.

(Mostly) fond memories of Mr Webber but this ship has sailed (As has BT)

Time to move on me thinks.

Pretty sure thats still classed as a miss.

A Penalty can be

Missed = Off Target

Saved = By the Keeper

Retaken = Ordered by the Referee

Scored = As in a Goal

Givened = Totally Fuckin Bottled Resulting in the End of the Universe

Some grade A shit talked about a player who was quality on his day. His day was more often than he was ever given credit for as well. All the if onlys are balanced by moments like if only he hadn't scored that goal at Newcastle to give us our first away win in the Premiership. Or perhaps if only he hadn't scored that goal at Cardiff that effectively won us promotion to the Premiership.

Perhaps we could balance the if only he had scored at home against Wigan that day with if only Warnock hadn't spunked money on trash rather than going for quality etc etc etc. Or perhaps if only Paddy hadn't pulled down Andy Johnson at home against Everton when we were cruising.

Don't think that hes an answer now and its hopefully lazy journalism but if he costs nowt and doesn't want paying much then whats the loss? He was capable of scoring goals in the Premiership not all that long ago, I'm not convinced but looking at where we are and what we have, perhaps its not such a big punt.
