Dear Blades

My name is Nikolaj, I'm a Danish photojournalist and currently in Sheffield doing my final project (bachelor) in photojournalism. I have chosen the topic of my project to be on football and the fan culture surrounding it.

The focus of my project will not be on issues such as hooliganism, but more on the love for football, and the importance of football in people's everyday life - a love that I share myself.

My reason for chosing Sheffield is because of the city's history with football. But since this is my first time to Sheffield, I don't know many people and places yet.
So the reason I write to you in this forum, is to hear if any of you Blades fans would be interested helping me with my project, by inviting me to your homes, have a chat and showing me how a Blades fan/family lives.

If you have any interest or questions please ask away.

I'm looking forward hearing from you!

Cheers

Nikolaj, The Dane

Vikings came here many years ago - they were not so polite then and took advantage of our women. How do we know you wont be the same?

You could expose all the squalour and unhygenic living conditions in S6, in the style of Jacob Riis

..

Are you speaking about Roger Nilson or Jostein Flo??!!

Didn't Nilsen allegedly have horizontal fun with Alan Kelly's wife?

:)

Years of endless speculation about whether Billy chinned Vinnie, but this little nugget has remained unmined. Tell us more...

I think that's half of your project complete already Nikolaj. As you can see, us Blades fans have a wicked sense of humour, especially considering we haven't won anything of note since 1925! You can make a note that we are the best set of fans in Sheffield (just in case you didn't know already), and extremely loyal. We love all Danes, especially Whitehouse. I'm sure that you would be welcome on the Kop, anytime, especially if you paint your face in red and white.

Well. Thanks for all the comments so far. But no one really went on in answering my question. Can it really be so, that no Blades wants to help me out with this project?

Sat morning wake up with head killing.
230pm - set off to ground with a feeling of dread
301pm - slag off wilson for picking Monty every week
302pm - slag off Wilson for picking Doyle every week
305pm - Hang my head as Blades fans ironically cheer Simmo catching a cross
320pm - Take the lead
347pm - Consume bottle of carling wondering why were not 4-0 up
410pm - realise that we must have one of the quitest grounds in the league
430pm - listen to blokes argue around me about Monty
450pm - go home with 3 points bagged but reading S24SU wondering if I missed an opposition equaliser

Nicolaj - A good bet would be to turn up outside the Golden Lion before a game and introduce yourself to Linz, Foxy and all the other Blades on this forum who meet there before matches. Have a chat with people, explain your project and your ideas and take it from there - I'm sure you'll find enough people to at least make a start.

I think this is a sign of the times.

Students want to carry out their projects at arm's length, via the computer, notebook, Facebook, etc.

Nobody want's to actually talk to people face to face or get their hands dirty.

Totally agree BB.The art of conversation went a long time ago, how about letter writing!
There will be no evidence of life as it is now in the next 100 years as there will be no evidence, to refer to.
I still have some letters my wife wrote to me over 50 years ago.Shows romance is still alive whatever age we get to.

I think asking a polite question on a public, relevant forum is an excellent way of getting help. I'd volunteer no problem, would have been a good way of getting some professional looking, documentary photos taken. I'm in the wrong country though.

i fhe were to put the same request on porktork he would be innundated with offers of marriage ,tickets for the play off final and pictures of peculiar looking women in cut down pig shirts

A bloke signs up and requests - in a foreign language btw - for someone to make contact with and somehow Stadler and Waldorf turn it into a call for the return of National Service and rationing.

Give the lad a breather ffs.

He wants to talk face to face, which I presume involves a visit to Sheff

He said "the reason I write to you in this forum, is to hear if any of you Blades fans would be interested helping me with my project, by inviting me to your homes, have a chat and showing me how a Blades fan/family lives"

Exactly. When it comes to courtesy and general good-neighbourliness this country is so far down the pan it is hard to see how it can recover. Perhaps that would be a more fitting subject for the Danish photojournalist.

Maybe you can start by apologising to the bloke and reading his mail properly just to show good manners still prevail?

My comments were aimed at students in general - not at TheDane.

If I have offended the gentleman, then of course I apologise.

(I visited Copenhagen some years ago. Lovely place with friendly people)

Thanks for the advice on the Golden Lion. SheepdipBlade! I'll try to follow up on that one. It's nice to get info on where to go, since I've been in Sheffield for two weeks now talking to loads and loads of Sheffielders, Blades and Owls, but no real breakthrough on the "home-showing"-part. Just to let all know, that I prefer face-to-face contact - always!

And I'm still interested in hearing from any one who want's to help me out here or meet!

Thanks..

Cheers!
