My guess is not that Wilder doesn't rate him, but more likely that a free championship standard defender is likely to attract championship interest and therefore higher wages than we're offering too, so we just won't be able to compete for him. That's my guess. There's still lots of decent defenders that can improve our squad such as Kevin Long, McFadzean, O'Connell and Beevers etc. We might have to pay a small transfer fee for Long but I reckon he'd be attainable. Then there's a few others who are slightly less appealing going on frees that would do a job like David Edgar, Kirk Broadfoot, Paul Downing and Anthony Gerrard. I'm confident that Wilder will get in decent players, but it probably won't be for another week or two, based on his last interview. That's still around a month before the season starts.

Players dropping down a level not yet at their peak and still performing regularly in the Championship would have to have a special affiliation with the club like Brayford otherwise the money demanded in wages would be too high.

If Nelson, Pierre and a few others start being snapped up it might be time to lower the expectations!

Anyone heard of this lad? Was part of the Yeovil team that got promoted the other year, has played for Fulham in the prem and played plenty of games last season. Wigan signed him on a free this season, maybe we could tempt them with a little bid...

Haven't heard us linked with him before so it's only a player suggestion rather than an 'incoming' but I reckon he'd be ideal.
