No it'd make me happy if you want to talk like an expert that knows more than the rest of us, then have the decency to explain that expertise. Otherwise you're just leading folk on

What a daft comment that is. Let's set a precedent where anyone posting their views on a football forum has to detail their qualifications under the comment!

Who said anything about being an expert? Unless you're talking about my lighthearted custom title?

People can agree. They can disagree. They can ignore. It's just football talk. You make it sound like I'm in a position of responsibility.

Obviously you'd prefer it if nobody had anything to say. Whatever floats your boat.

Iv not seen the player in the flesh BUT

I remember him being at Coventry and the rave reviews he got. When he was out of contract I did a little digging and remember being impressed by what I watched/read. I wanted us to sign him at the time.

In all honesty I haven't kept track of him but after a quick search it looks like he's played alot of games in a decent derby side that past few seasons. Add to that his international caps.

freeman needs quality competition because he's not as guaranteed to succeed in the championship as some believe.
signing players other championship teams don't want doesn't mean they will fail. Examples off the top of my head involving us
sharp to donny
hulse to derby
Armstrong to reading?
Briton to swansea
dyer to Swansea?

I was very impressed with Christie when I watched him for Coventry. Big, strong and quick, did well against Jamie Murphy and was a threat going foward. It seems he's been a bit sloppy defensively at Derby, but he's got a lot of great attributes and it would be very interesting to see how he'd do for Wilder.

Another option could be Blackpool's Kelvin Mellor, who had a strong season for them, winning players' and local newspaper's POY and got in the League Two team of the year. He's got some of the same qualities as Christie.

I was going to say I think he's class.

But guess I need to caveat that by saying I'm a) not a scout and b) haven't seen him play live.

I still think he looks class tho. Would be a real good signing. In my non; professional or semi-professional scout opinion.

Seen him play numerous times - including several times live. I think he played at the Lane in the pre season game vs Derby (lost one nil). He's tall and quick but I was left wanting a bit more. He's very one footed and not the best crosser of the ball, or the quickest, most inventive passer. He's the sort of player I think Wilder may be able to get more out of.

As long as Wilder isn't reading Ricky's posts and being lead on, I'm sure everything will be ok.

Yes, I think he did play against us in that friendly at the start of the season. I see what you mean about wanting a bit more. My impression is that he's good carrying the ball from deeper positions but lets himself down a bit when he gets into more advanced positions. I think Freeman's probably better in that respect, I'm not just talking about the goals but general play and movement.

Anyway, I'd say that if there's anything in this then there's a chance Freeman's leaving. Christie would only come as first choice.

He could also play RCB so that would be another reason for Wilder to be interested.

Your "my impression is that he's good carrying the ball from deeper positions, but lets himself down a bit when he gets into more advanced positions" is exactly what I mean. There's a lot of players like this, though. He's probably a better athlete than footballer really: tall, strong, quick, good engine. I'd definitely get him if it's on the cheap a good manager can get an extra 10-20% out of a decent player. I think he'd be fine at RCB. A change might do him good, as Derby play a slow, methodical game which maybe doesn't make best use of his athleticism. A counter attacking side would suit him more imo.

if we are all honest none of us ever know anything about anyone we sign some pretend to, some use football manager. Either way I'm leathered after milburn tonight and if Wilder signs anyone he has my backing. So much so he had made my mother get a season ticket and she grew up supporting North Barnsley

Can't see us paying a fee for a right back. Wilder will be hoping to to bring back Riley to add competition in that area .He's young and will want to get his career on track as he lost some game time last season.

We have other areas that need strengthening and they will not be covered cheaply if we want to have a go this season ,in Wilder we trust.

If he can play RCB then it may be worth having a look. He's tall, and we do lack pace in the back 3.

Also heard a whisper we are signing rai simons from chesterfield

What a front line that would be

Billy Rai Cyrus

Good! At last, someone who really does know something about him - "he's tall" - that's good. We need "tall" in the team I agree.

I know it's not the most reliable site but £2m seems a bit steep for a player who's admitted he doesn't fit into rowetts plans and we already have a decent right back in the side. Would prefer is to get the Leonard deal sorted if I'm honest.

For the record I've seen him play 2 times in the last year. Ore season and in Derbys fa cup run - think he did ok but nearly scored an own goal.

the league position a team finishes in is a sum of all parts, if Ronaldo played for Sunderland last season they would still have been relegated - does that make him a shit player??
in the same way playing for a team that finished in the top 6 doesn't make Jordan Rhodes a good player..

It's really not that hard to get a good enough idea of a players ability without ever seeing them play.

Some fucker from another club wants to know about Coutts having never seen him play. He comes on here, checks quite a few posts and relays our views to his own fans. I'd say he'd go back with some pretty solid and well founded comments.

I saw someone here accuse someone that his opinions were only based on 'a quick Google search'. Well, aside from watching a player every week, the second best way to find out information about a player is reading the thoughts of those who actually have watched them every week.

Not that unlikely that we'd bid £2m for a player, but quite unlikely we'd bid that for a right back.

If we did though it would surely confirm that Freeman's leaving. We wouldn't spend that money on someone to play RCB before seeing how Basham performs there.

Don't really believe this anyway. Maybe he's on the list but I'd be surprised if we pursued him at this stage, because I'd be surprised if Freeman's leaving.

Just seen this on that page as well, which hasn't been mentioned previously.

Right winger it seems.

Yes because by saying 'may be worth having a look' what i really meant was we should immediately bid £40m for him. Do you disagree we need height and pace in a back 3?

Really? My team is thinking about signing Matt Done. Is he a pacy goal-poacher or a shadow-chasing mediocrity?

Montgomery? Kozluk? Doyle? McNulty? Reed? Long?

He would based on last season. But based on the comments from the season before he'd be reporting back "don't touch with a barge pole".

The majority on here were dead set against Coutts based on the previous season. A few could see that he was a very talented player, coming back from a long term injury, and played out of position by the worst manager in the club's history.

I agree fans opinions are the best guide though. But not all fans can put things into context so you have to allow for that as well.
