I think today CW's substitutions were shocking and one of the reasons we didn't come away with all 3 points.

I am a big fan of CW and I think he will finally take us up but his substitutions I feel are always left too late. Today I would have made the first change as soon as they went down to 10.

I would have probably taken lafferty off for Lavery when they went down to 10. The done change on the 92nd minute was baffling.

Unless we are being dominated CW doesn't make a change until 70 min + In my opinion we should be making changes earlier in general especially today.

Hanson just missed a game because of a groin injury, so that was entirely predictable. O'Shea for Lafferty I've no quibble with either. The Done one was weird - hope JOC isn't injured.

So not too critical of the subs, but perhaps the shape we adopted when they went to ten men wasn't ideal. Duffy as an out-and-out winger isn't his best position and he and Freeman didn't link as effectively when they were on top of each other.

It's becoming a bit of mantra, but I hope Chapman is back soon. He's the option in these situations.

Hanson had his poorest game since joining but still made the goal. Probably coming back from the injury a little too soon.

He will be important next week at both ends against Parkinson's bunch of thugs.

I didn't mind the first 2 substitutions in terms of personnel but they were far too late I think they should have been made 60/65 mins rather than 80 mins

Hanson got the hook as he was breathing out of his arse at 70 minutes. Thought O'Shea did well. Would maybe have got for a three up top with Lavery but not sure it would've worked with Big Jim coming off.

I thought they were too late...... I also have no idea what the point of bring Done on was in added time.

In fact Scunny attacked down that side in the last few minutes and caused problems as Done had no time at all to adjust to the pace of the game.

Strange one that

Nothing wrong with substitutions, Hanson did a good job but not really a threat, silly booking and several fouls committed so good decision, O,Shea for Lafferty came too late but was ok, and Done probably should have been given 10-15 mins,JOC played well defensively .Best performance of season only disappointment was result.

I think you've got a point there tbh. I wouldn't call the substitutions shocking but I would have put Lavery on for Lafferty sooner.

I don't know enough about Riley yet but I may have been tempted to try him in place if Freeman for the last 20 as I understand he likes to bomb forward and can put a good ball into the box. Freemans final ball let us down several times today imo.

I can see why he tried Done in the closing minutes. Hoping his pace might create something going forward down the left. But it didn't unfortunately. We are witnessing Dones last season in a United shirt I'm sorry to say. He just isn't good enough - as the army of Done admirers on here will eventually be forced to admit.

Funny as I actually though Hanson had quite a good game. Chased everything down and won a lot in the air - that's why he's there.
I'm glad that on the whole the fans appreciated what he brings to the table.

He's a must in how we play now. The ball didn't stick a's much up front when he went off and I think that aided them in their rare attacks.

Good result considering no ground has been lost.

UTB

Subs were shocking today, mine was cold and the coke was flat. Macky D's next time for me.

O'Connell had a good game but got robbed of the ball twice near the end deep into their half down the left. Straight on his arse the second time. CW probably thought Done might have more luck.

It made sense against Northampton as they'd effectively given up attacking, so we didn't have to worry about the fact that Done, despite playing left-back for much of his career, is an appalling left-back defensively.

In a game where Scunthorpe were still displaying signs of potential threat even with ten men (albeit occasional), it was the wrong choice at the wrong time.

Poorest game for us?
That was his third game?
Lots to come from him, good signing.

I wonder if one fault that CW has is he still thinks at times like a lower league manager keeping best eleven out there and forgetting he has game changing quality on the bench. I think if he was more more used to the resources he has he would have looked at getting Lavery, O'Shea and Carruthers on from around the 70th minute point, especially against 10 men.

Wilder really gets it right so often, what I really like is his belief in the starting 11 being the best available for that game. So quite understandable that he keeps the same 11 on for as long as possible.

He believes, with confidence not arrogance that his team will go out and win the game.

Was surprised on Tues when he went with a changed side, but those changes on Tuesday helped keep that 11 on the pitch as long as they did yesterday.

The result yesterday was a good one, yes we had chances to win it, but overall that result coupled with Bolton and Bradford drawing means that 3 of the chasing 4 haven't reduced the gap.

IMO Done was purely fresh legs. A good call

The "pigs" 2012, mark 2, with head grunter leading the front line.

Given that he has no ability, your assessment must be correct....
He's had a drab season Done, but one thing I like is he runs his socks off and pressures defenders - which can't be said for Clarke (when fit)

He's had a drab career. The one thing you like is the one thing he can do, so it's a neat fit. Personally, I prefer good footballers.
